PEOPLE have been raving about the Apple Watch, so it is probably time for a rant from a devils advocate.
For starters, Apples smartwatch is neat, but that might be the only thing it has going for it. If the products intended function is providing you with around-the-clock health information, then there are a lot of roadblocks that need to be addressed.
Here are five: (...) 1. Battery life is as terrible as you would expect. 2. Too little screen for too much information. 3. It is too big. 4. Even the positive reviews are negative. 5. The Apple Watch could still fail. (...)

It’s not always about the cost or opulence of a product. Sometimes a product will get adopted by a group and having it becomes a kind of “secret handshake”. Subarus, Birkenstocks, and Doc Martens come to mind.
Perusing the titles of various threads, this one was the most interesting at the time. The guy asked why people wanted this device, and I felt I had a reasonably good answer. I still think my answer is the best explanation for what we are seeing.
Given I felt I could contribute something to the discussion, why shouldn't I be here? I enjoy it when other people provide me insight, I figured some would enjoy mine.
I am sure I will shortly find some other topic more interesting and segue over to it.
No worries. Like I said, if you aren't ready to be flamed, you aren't ready for the internet. :)
NOTE: DO NOT INSULT THE MAN WHO CONTROLS THE “BAN” BUTTON.
And Im an Apple fanboy since 1995.
To be fair, it is sometimes difficult to figure out how to display wealth and style. You can only wear so much gold before it starts to look tacky and desperate. :)
It is no accident that Jobs focused heavily on style. It sells product.
Morbid curiosity.
Exactly right. Part of the appeal is that not everyone has it. When everyone has it, it's no longer sexy or stylish.
Sometimes. They didn't have any luck in the server market because data center manager wouldn't pay extra for pretty boxes that were going to get racked up in dark glass rooms where nobody could see them.
Apple haters? You mean “Obama haters”? Or “Liberal Haters”?
You and your groupies failed the test. This was not about Apple. It is about a poor product they dropped onto its customers as the “must-have jewelry of the year”. A poor product is a poor product. Failure is failure. Hope and change is hope and change.
Call a spade a spade. Answer the 5 questions I mentioned, and then maybe, just maybe, the good conservatives will see past your libertarian and/or liberal views on technology and take you and your band of happy hippies seriously.
LOL ... he’s been saying for years, here on Free Republic, that Apple is on the verge of collapsing as a company ... “any day now” ... :-) ...
Your recent posts have piqued my curiosity.
What kind of car do you drive?
Thanks for the link. The guy was out of control in a very destructive way.
Ban button? The one that controls conservative principles by banning non-traditional, non-conservative, hippy dippy baloney?
Well then, anything that smells like a hippy fart belongs in the ban category. Apple watches don’t need banned. They’ll ban themselves. Yes, they’re hippy farts.
Obamacare for the Wrist.
You hated Apple long before that. So your credibility is gone.
Lots of old cars.
1957 Thunderbird
1967 Comet
1981 Crown Vic
1991 Bronco XLT
The misses drives a 98 Ranger. I can’t stand it. Too small for me.
Yes I’m old. First car was a 38 Ford coupe. Was the best looking car for it’s time in the 40’s. Classic rust bucket.
If ya cant handle the comments and opinions of others, you sure in hell do not belong on this site.
Get it?
First, the watch is NO phone. Let’s put that one to rest.
Second, nobody needs constant attention to their biometrics. Unless they’re in a coma. Or ICU. No watches there either.
Third, I have an iPhone (soon to be dropped for a new Samsung, thanks to the grandson). No, it’s not for me anyway because it’s a useless trinket.
Fourth, any “watch” that requires you to babysit it and CONSTANTLY flick your wrist to wake the damned thing up is no watch. Because watches tell time regardless of whether it’s “asleep” or not. Watches tell the TIME, not tell you what your idiot cousin sent you in an email.
Fifth, recharging without even a stand to do it (got to plug the thing in) is yet another annoying thing you have to do during the day. Aside from taking it off, then putting it back on, it’s another distraction to life. Buckle. Unbuckle. Charge. Charge. Charge your phone. Charge again. Buckle. Unbuckle.
Isn’t this ridiculous trinket suppose to SIMPLIFY your life? How is buckle, buzz, unbuckle, charge, buckle. Unbuckle. Can’t submerge. Unbuckle. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. supposed to simplify your life?
You have a lot to learn about the elegance of simplicity.
In general and for all forums, you’re right, because the forum belongs to someone else and not to you or me.
BUT ... with this forum, Jim Robinson is quite fair, and he does make it clear what is supported here on this forum while giving everyone freedom to operate within those “conservative” boundaries.
You’ll notice that Jim Robinson gave the guy a kind warning, just before that final post, but he chose to ignore it and “went on the attack” against Jim.
We know what he says is totally wrong, because we all know too much about Jim Robinson. This guy was (is) actually mentally unbalanced (this is not a slur, but just a statement of what he is). This guy exhibited the VERY SAME MENTALLY UNBALANCED nature in the Apple threads ... and just like those other APPLE-HATER TROLLS do.
These APPLE-HATER TROLLS probably get so mad that Freepers actually buy Apple products and think those products are great ... that they slip into a sort of INSANITY. They may have a DEFECT already that plays into this behavior of theirs (I suspect this is true) ... which is why these APPLE-HATER TROLLS really do need some honest-to-goodness psychiatric help. They should not feel too embarrassed to get it, before they end up harming themselves and/or others in real life.
