General Motors CEO Mary Barra is dismissing any talk of a possible merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. [ ]
Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne recently floated the idea of merging with GM or another global automaker. He is a proponent of industry consolidation and says only the biggest automakers will survive.

The Fiat was only imported to help Chrysler meet CAFE standards, The CEO is on the record stating he doesn’t want to sell one more FIAT than he is required to by law... he never wanted to import them in the first place.
I would question your knowledge of the man based on that statement.
I understand his argument that industry consolidation is likely.. but the press are the folks who pushed GM... he stated he could see consolidation with GM or Ford or someone else to make it a global player as only the big players will likely survive.
IMHO it is too late to pick the bones of Chrysler. It was prime for picking near bankruptcy, the Jeep logo and the 300,000 / yr Van run rate were worth grabbing, the rest forgetaboutit. IMHO with the “One Ford” mantra continuing and their focus on Lincoln I say Ford is not stupid enough to do this, GM on the other hand.... But I see someone like Nissan-French firm etc trying to grab them, I don’t see the synergies with GM frankly...
I love those and really wanted one, until I found out that they don’t have A/C. Gotta have A/C
I might do likewise. There is no valid argument for industry consolidation unless one is looking to squash market competition, thus being against a free market. Another industry vacuumed out from under the USA’s feet, with not only Marchionne’s aid but also that of the UAW and other anti-membership unions.
All about designs, I suspect. Once those go offshore, then you can’t get them back.
Fiat is in financial trouble and is looking for deeper pockets. It’s that simple. And the uphill struggle that Fiat-Chrysler would have was known before the acquisition.
Does not matter what the CEO of General Motors thinks, what did Obama say?
Two drunks leaning against each other hoping the other one will prop themselves up.
I recently drove a new Fiat 500L.
No, they didn’t fix their problems.
The word on the street is that Chrysler has been available for a long time to anyone who is willing to step up and buy them - for the last few decades, Chrysler has been like the old car that goes around the neighborhood with a perpetual for sale sign. I understand that the huge future debt load is the obstacle to finding buyers. (I don't know if or how the bailout might have affected that.) I had also heard a rumor that Nissan was at one time interested in acquiring the Ram line of trucks. I don't know how profitable the Ram trucks are but Ford sure makes a ton on their F-series trucks.
