While the House Select Committee on Benghazi was originally expected to reveal its findings by the end of this year, the release of the highly anticipated report could be delayed until 2016.
The delay would cause the report to be released during the key months of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Republicans on the committee sought to put the blame for the potential delay on Clinton and other members of the Obama administration.
"Factors beyond the committee's control, including witness availability, compliance with documents requests, the granting of security clearancesand accreditationsall of which are controlled by the Executive branchcould continue to impact the timing of the inquiry's conclusion," said spokesman Jamal Ware.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, also suggested the committee could finish its work much faster if Obama administration officials would cooperate.
"They could clean this up a whole lot quicker if the administration and former Secretary Clinton were in a position to actually cooperate with the committee and turn over the type of information that we've been seeking for some time," Boehner told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday.
"But the administration has made it virtually impossible to get to the facts surrounding Benghazi," he added. "When we have the facts, we'll have the report."
Meanwhile, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., accused the GOP of playing politics due to Clinton's role as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"With the Republicans' obsessive focus on Hillary Clinton, and their now stated intention to drag out this political charade until just months before the 2016 election, the Select Committee no longer bears any resemblance to its original purpose," Cummings said.
Critics have regularly accused Republicans of politicizing the Benghazi attacks because of Clinton's presidential ambitions, noting that there have already been multiple Congressional probes.
Clinton was serving as Secretary of State during the attacks on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Republicans argue that the select committee is necessary because Congressional Democrats and the White House have stonewalled previous investigations.
Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman of the select committee, has asked Clinton to appear before the committee at least two times, including once for a private, transcribed interview on her use of a private email server while Secretary of State.

lol. Trey is a joke and i was hoping he wasn’t. We should try that if we are even on trial.
Now Ted supports this trade bill and i don’t know if its good or bad, with everyone saying foreign countries will be able to override our congress on workers immigration rules.
hey GREAT USER NAME!! look at my tag :)
Gowdy is a joke.
The GOPe’s are not interested in finding the truth or seeking justice
for the 4 dead Americans. They want to use Bengazi as a campaign tool.
I find that disgusting.
Seriously. I wish it would but after 40 investigations and various discussions on it. They better have Hillary with the weapon that shot Stevens because I think much of America has moved on. Sometimes I wonder about stupid Republicans and their inability to put together a simple overview of events in a timely manner that would have the punch needed for voters to turn on Hillary. I think whatever this report has, it is too little to late for most voters (unless somehow it has a smoking gun)....which I seriously doubt.
Ping, with my compliments.
The delay would cause the report to be released during the key months of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
TOUGH TI#IES!
Funny thing is He will vote for her.
gee... just enough time to give all the cover hillary needs
it’s pretty tough to claim we’re a nation of laws when so many high profile dems flagrantly violate laws every day... from identity theft to national security to working directly for the enemy
Trey Gowdy has turned out to be just another useless POS. All the talk of finding the truth was all BS.
The GOP once again shows it does not care
... except about themselves.
Nothing but a French revolution
will save what was once the USA, and that is not
going to happen.
Thank you, Ray. I did hear this report a couple of days ago, on GRETA.
I am now surprised that you are surprised. Gowdy has been excellent at drawing pictures for you, from the beginning, dealing with everyone’s expectations and the scope of his investigation.
A couple of things, come to mind. The direct evidence that Gowdy expected eventually to get to, through the normal process, is now destroyed by the witness herself, Hillary Clinton. It was never housed at State at all, and Gowdy forced that information into the media spotlight.
The other problem is that the HOR committee only gets two shots at Hillary Clinton, according to Trey. Hillary wanted to burn one of those two appearances, by coming last month, BEFORE Gowdy had any direct evidence, or the emails.
If you are a prosecutor, would you want that interview before you have evidence against her, or after? What prosecutor wants to wear a soup bowl on his head in public, before he possesses some or in this case, any, direct evidence?
Besides, what’s wrong with thwarting the Clinton machine efforts to get all of these scandals swept up and out of the way by crunch time next year, nearer to the general election.
So, if Benghazi can be outlined at a time inconvenient for Hillary, and convenient for us, that suits me just fine too.
Thx for thinking of me. Rita :/

You miss the point entirely.
You didn’t offer a point to miss, dear. You offered a ping.
I read it and responded. Silly me.
Unless the Justice Department plans to file criminal charges against Hillary (which of course won't happen) this whole thing is done.... dead end.
I suspect the complainers don't know the background of Gowdy, a former prosecutor. Others would have given up a long time ago, but not Gowdy. He has been thwarted time after time by various Democrat witnesses, but Hillary is the key and he will keep on keeping on, until he can nail her. I don't care if it takes more years to do it, but he will do it.
It was Gowdy’s insistence on getting her emails that brought to light she had that secret server at her house - Gowdy found that out and now the country knows it - without Gowdy, we wouldn't know what she did.
