The worlds newest microcountry wants to become its foremost tax haven.
Liberland, which sits on 2.7 square-miles of land along the Danube River between Serbia and Croatia, was founded earlier this month and plans to have only voluntary taxes.
"We dont want the state to take money from the people," Vít Jedlička, a native of Prague and Liberland's new president, told Business Insider in a phone interview. "We want to have voluntary taxes."
Elected into office by a three-person committee, Jedlička says he started Liberland to turn the concept of a state upside down.
After working as a financial analyst in the Czech Republic, Jedlička became motivated by ever-increasing taxes and regulations to claim a plot of land that neither Serbia nor Croatia already have.
Residents and visitors of the new country will be allowed to use any money of their choice, including crypto currencies like Bitcoin, to buy and sell goods and complete other transactions within Liberland.

Kind of capitalist immigration, akin to Singapore.
I have a good friend who bought a rental building in Singapore just to get dual citizenship, passports, and bank accounts outside the USA on the theory that if he didn’t need it, his kids/grand kids will.
Smart countries take rich people ready to bolt.
That wouldn’t be libertarian, and they say that drugs will be illegal.
I want to buy their T-shirt.
Probably a better word would be “conservatarian,” then.
For example, I don’t care if two perverts want to ruin each other’s assholes. But I reserve the right to not sell them a cake, ignore their fake marriage, and mock them as the perverts that they are.
They are saying that they are a libertarian enterprise though, not conservative.
Why do I think of the movie “Hostel”?
No way in heck!
I thought Homer Simpson did this already
“They are saying that they are a libertarian enterprise though, not conservative.”
Having read several links, they also say “classically liberal.”
In the modern American spectrum would probably be “non-authoritative conservative.”
In short, some libertarian ideas with some practical conservative ideas.
Registered and applied. Started a thread about the Second Amendment.
And they could have a one senator Senate headed by Joe Liberland.
I think that I will take their word for it and call them libertarian.
Yeah, don’t rush in to open an account with the National Bank of Liberland!
I like the thought, but the Balkans are the most unstable place in Europe historically. Any one of those countries there could just say, “Hey, that’s some good stuff there” and take it over.
It’s not every day that one can find land not claimed by an existing country.
I don't really get it.
Eventually, Serbia or Croatia will assert themselves and move in.
Or somebody else:
South Maudlandia, an Antarctic-based micronation, has laid claim to the territory since 18 March 2015 as the Autonomous Region of Pannonia. Another micronation project called Paraduin has also already staked out a claim at the same area, and the author also mentions Liberland in the project blog. -- Wikipedia
Uh, okay ...
Liberland. OK. At first, I thought it said, “Liberaland.”
The word ‘Liberal’ like ‘Gay’ were very good words to use until they got hijacked by the left. Tsk Tsk Tsk.
There was a proposal to create a micro (freemaket) based nation out of an island part of Detroit, Michigan a few years ago. Wishing him success and this helps inspire others’ efforts.
