Earlier in the week we had tornadoes hit just a couple of miles north of us and about a mile south of us. Lots of damage done to businesses on our main street and the school attended by my grand daughter.
We were lucky just a bunch of smaller limbs laying around the yard. I was not able to get any gardening done at all this past week - not much of anything else either. I am zonked from trying to sleep in a chair the last several nights, so I'll catch up later tomorrow.
Hope all is well. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
Prayers out to you and yours.
Oh my, God Bless for recovery and some peace.
I am in Connecticut and the Home Depot and Lowes are filled with tomato plants and herbs. Good golly we still have snow on the ground in some areas.
Have to say the tomato plants looked beautiful. Have to wait.
Prayers for you and hubby!

Oh, when it rains, it pours.
Prayers for a quick recovery for your DH. Get some rest.
My rhubarb is looking great. The asparagus hasn’t popped up yet.
Ohio...Zone 5
Sorry to hear about such a difficult week there with sickness, tornados and all.
May your next week be so much better.
I want to pass on the results of a small comparison test that I’m running- a couple of weeks ago, I transplanted some 4 inch peppers and tomatoes into 1.63 gal pots, two gypsy peppers and two San Marzano tomatoes. I planted one of each in Miracle Grow Potting Mix (the non-water saving type) and the other two in Carl Pool Vital Earth Ultra Blend. The two plants in the Carl Pool soil are at least 1.5 times the size of Miracle Grow plants, and they are side by side, watered the same, etc. I’m in Central TX, and I bought the Carl Pool blend at Green and Growing nursery in Pflugerville, TX, two cubic feet for $11.53, about the same price as the MG at Wally World.
Our Prayers to your husband and also you greeneyes ~
Glad your hubby is doing better, will send some prayers your way. Thanks for starting the thread. My hubby is down with a bug right now. He had a long week at work. With his CLL he’s been told to keep an eye out for infections and I hope this bug passes soon. Other than watching my romaine lettuce sprout under Plexiglas, it’s been too wet to till up the garden. I do have some bulbs to plant today. I think if I dig a hole there will not be any frost.
Well............my container bamboos are just now beginning to shoot.............big news, huh.............
More L8R!

We got a few days of warmth here in southern Ohio. I made a rock garden in a 2 x 15 area in front of the porch. I used “Alabama Sunset” pebbles and my horde of local flint I’ve been saving for years. It’s a blast of color now, especially in the rain. I re-potted some of my Cactus plants. The Century plant had three babies, presents for my friends.
Hope your hubby is better soon.
Memphis, TN area report. My every bearing strawberries are blooming, blueberries have formed some leaves, ditto for blackberries, lots of new ones are just starting to green up. Toms are in 5 gal buckets this year. First set of green beans are in. Fixing to set a few prickle cukes out.
Rose bushes are starting to green up, and the Knock out are in full leaf no signs of buds yet.
Lawns go from still brown with weeds, to greening up. Temps and to much rain are crazy this year. We don’t get a long spring before we go to the 100+ temps.
After snow this past week, we are finally getting temps in the 50s and forecast for 60s this week! We still have snow where it was piled, but more and more lawn is showing!
Barb continues to plant seeds, only to have the seedlings damp-off or otherwise die. Any suggestions out there?
I am busy today, building pullouts for the kitchen island cabinets. We have scheduled the templating for Thursday, the week after next and install the following Thursday, so the pressure is now on! I have to get the cabinets finished, the existing tile pulled up and replaced with underlayment, the toe kicks secured and the cabinets moved I and secured, and the wiring run. Also need to get the plumber in to run the drain and water supply as well as install the new baseboard heater. Then, I can finally remove the stub of the original wall separating the living room and kitchen!
Blossoms and blossoms,, asian pear and fuji apple trees, so far, really slow popping buds and blossoms have all of a sudden taken off. a couple pear trees are slower than the rest.. but leaves are finally unfurling too.
Planted 8 tomato plants as well, have blossoms opening on half of them so far, warm weather helps.. and rain. ;-)
I posted a couple of recipes on the weekly cooking thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3277604/posts?page=45#45
I think some gardeners here might be interested, because those recipes came out of my nutritional research. I was trying to find an eating plan that provided 100% of every nutrient while staying below 2000 calories. I figured out over 50 of them, but these are the two I keep gravitating back toward.
What I found while doing that research has changed my definition of “healthy”, and has also changed my plans for a survival garden. Not to mention revamping my emergency food stores!
Now I’m trying to come up with the same sort of nutritional plan for chickens, sheep, and goats, so I could theoretically grow everything I needed. Chickens for eggs and meat, and a small dairy flock.
Prayers up for your hubby!
Praise God for this beautiful day! Our four feet of snow is GONE, and it will be near 70 the next two days without a cloud in sight. Seedlings are in for a treat! (My internet pastor is speaking about the Haldron Collider again...don’t want to miss this.)
