A 20-year-old Kansas man tried to detonate a dud of a car bomb at Fort Riley Military Base on behalf of the Islamic State, the Justice Departments prosecution alleged Friday.
Military personnel nabbed John T. Booker Jr., of Topeka, during his attempt to set a bomb off at the Manhattan facility.
The suspect chose Fort Riley for its fame and large population of soldiers, according to a statement released by the Department of Justice.
Booker is believed to have spent months scheming a terrorist plot and in March finalized his plan to become a suicide bomber. But the botched attack never posed a threat to the base, FBI agents contend.
I want to assure the public there was never any breach of Fort Riley Military Base, nor was the safety or the security of the base or its personnel ever at risk, Agent Eric Jackson said.
Its believed Booker leaked his plan to another person, who was not identified, and said he couldnt be captured as a dead man.
All evidence would be destroyed, and he would be guaranteed to hit his target, Booker explained, according to a federal criminal complaint.
In the months before putting his plan to action, Booker allegedly produced a propaganda video for the Islamic State and rented a storage unit to keep his bomb making gear.
He is charged with one count each of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempting to damage property by means of an explosive and providing support to a terrorist organization.
Lemme guess.....Amish?
Lawrence of Arabia syndrome?
John T. Booker be his slave name.
What be his African Warrior name?
You can make a car bomb with skittles, watermelon iced tea, and ‘Tussin?
What be his African Warrior name?
Kunta... Kunta Kinte.
Really? I’d have guessed it would be something like M’bele Muhamid Mohammed Hussein 0dinga Jihad.
Is that Arabic for John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt?
“...at the Manhattan facility”
I have made an observation about news stories - whenever I know anything at all about the story, I can identify obvious mistakes. This is because news reporters are by and large quite stupid and not detail oriented. It makes me wonder how much news at all levels is flat out false.
FWIW, Fort Riley is not a ‘Manhattan facility’. It is closer to other cities (adjacent to some of them), and Manhattan is not the ‘military town’ next to FT Riley...Junction City is.
Ping
Well, maybe.. With a little bit of African Dholuo names mixed in, for melanin authenticity.
Sounds like another FBI honeypot entrapment.
Looks he is standing in some chess fashion mart in the hood...
Thanks, Crew, as a former long time resident of the Little Apple, I noticed that false ‘fact’ too and wondered what else is wrong in this story.
Here’s version with more details - interview with this thing’s imam at same location.
Makes me want to say, durka durka Mohammed jihad
Is that Achmed the Terrorist?
I spent three years at Riley. Didn’t exactly care for it but never thought about going jihad....
Yep, my daughter and son-in-law were both members of "Big Red One" and my wife and I stayed at both Manhattan and Junction City on several occasions. Both very nice towns.
"Manhattan Facility" - good grief. Manhattan's almost a 30 minute drive away from the Riley gate. Idiot reporter...
