Much as we'd like to emulate our NASCAR heroes, breaking the speed limit often comes at a price. Ford is hoping to prevent accidents and speeding tickets by introducing cars that can see what the speed limit is and preventing heavy-footed motorists from driving any faster. Ford's Intelligent Speed Limiter tech will first appear on the new Ford S-Max that's launching in Europe that could just change the way that we drive.

that is why I specified “effetes”. Those NYTimes reporting, Drive By Media types that worship at the toilet of big government.
So if I am driving a seriously ill person to a hospital in one of these POS cars and they die because I don’t get to the hospital in time, I am going to sue Ford out of existence. (I once was actually that seriously ill person - anaphylactic shock.)
One of those areas would be the state of Utah.

I took seven posts to point this out; bingo. Sometimes it is good to get out of the way of something and you’ll lose life and/or limb if you cannot.
Reading the story, it indicates that this function is controllable by:
1) switching it off via a dash switch, or
2) applying near full throttle (similar to the old “kickdown” switch)
Sure way to get people killed.

That will be especially funny when some teenager in Chicago hacks into the speed limit setting on the northbound Dan Ryan and changes the speed limit to 10mph.
I had about 4 minutes to live. Those extra steps - esp since I was being driven by a friend who didn’t know my car - probably would have cost me my life. Not joking.

On more than one occasion, I’ve had to speed UP to avoid an accident. What a stupid idea.
Guess Ford cannot handle success...Looks like they will follow the Starbucks model for jumping the shark...
But hey, per the article you can take an extra step to turn this feature off. Of course, when you have less than a second to react in a stressful situation, that’s no worry. /SARC

Starbux had a 6% year over year increase for existing locations in 2014. In the Obama economy, that’s darn impressive.
I can’t figure them out, but they make money bigtime.
