This is only a “clip” about carrier landings.
The entire movie is about the history of air combat.
From the Wright Bros. to Drones....

We need to remember this era because it is ending. Aircraft carriers, like battleships before them are almost obsolete. A new generation of "carrier killer" missiles will be their undoing. Men won't be flying fighter jets much longer either. Machines (robotics) can do it better.

Naval Aviators and Jarheads... It is not a BOAT, It is a SHIP!
a BOAT has a periscope, sail, diving planes and submerges.

I believe so too, next variant will be smaller “jeep” carriers or LPH type with smaller crew and will be a smaller target. Drone Squadrons and drone VAW squadrons that will loiter for days.

Thanks for this. My hubby, Vietnam era Navy pilot, has been reminiscing about this sort of thing...after watching the video. He made 5 out of 5 traps the first time....and they did all this with no nice “heads up display” to help them. ;-D
Utter shame what Obama has done to our military...we had all better be praying for our country!

Especially when there it is part of the checklist.
One of the things people are constantly amazed about when I explain initial carrier qualification is that you go solo. No instructor in the back seat.

When you use smaller decks you lose a lot of sortie generating capability. Anything short of a super carrier and you can’t simutaneously conduct strikes and protect the battle group. You also lose sustained speed with a smaller boat. All of the remaining carriers are nuke powered and are the fastest ships in the fleet. Can’t pull that off with an amphib.

Many on FR have bashed me for suggesting that aircraft carriers as we know them are going to fade away. I understand the nostalgia but we don't want our admirals to be busy planning for WWII.

Navy pilots are so bad that they need a wire to catch them when they land.
Real pilots don’t need a wire to land properly.

My air wing had a CAG LSO fly a hookup pass during a bagex, which is where the boat launches aircraft just to get multiple landings. One, a CAG LSO should never be robbing a new guy of a slot for a bagex. Flying a pass hookup doubles down on that sin. The fine for such a sin involves multiple bottles of scotch to multiple people.
At the end of cruise awards and skit night my squadron rewrote the words to Edelwiess from "the Sound of Music."
"Hook up pass, hookup pass, now CAT thinks I'm a dumb@$$......"
