With a range of almost two miles and four tubes attached to a loader, these are the homemade cannon being built by rebel fighters in Syria. The Borkan ('Volcano') weapons are built from gas canisters before being placed inside the loader, which can fire four shells at a time. Photos revealed al-Shamiyah Front fighters in Aleppo launching the missiles towards forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad yesterday. The Front was formed more than two months ago after rebel groups fighting in Syria's northern Aleppo province agreed to form an alliance. The images emerged as a group monitoring the war reported gunmen killed at least 12 Islamic State militants in al-Mayadin, Syria, overnight.

So basically - it fires in a general direction and causes mass damage and casualties to wherever it lands in a CITY.
So - why is not the US calling this a war crime???
Inflicting casualties in a war is not a war crime, in and of itself.
I am curious as to how this thing actually works. is it sort of like a super potato gun?
Because they are on the side of the White House on this one.
All of this over Islam.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just release the Kraken?
Yes it is. Inflicting causalities on civilians without any military justification or proportionality is a war crime. And against the Geneva Convention.
See the recent prosecution of Serbians by the World Court.
That's not inflicting casualties in and of itself. There have to be those additional factors, which aren't present here, since they are firing at the enemy forces, not at civilians for no reason. If a battle is happening in a populated area, some civilian casualties are unavoidable, and that is not a war crime.
Firing a mass casualty producing weapon that you CAN NOT EVEN AIM into the MIDDLE OF A CITY is a war crime.
And that is just what the “rebels” want to do - kill infidels, in this case they are Alawi, Kurdish or Christian. It doesn’t matter if they are military or not.
And obama supports them.
“Firing a mass casualty producing weapon that you CAN NOT EVEN AIM into the MIDDLE OF A CITY is a war crime.”
So, according to your logic, every American bomber pilot in WWII is a war criminal. Did I make a wrong turn and end up on DU?
It looks pretty much like a giant mortar to me.
If we had lost WWII - many Americans would have been put on trial for crimes against humanity. We bombed enemy cities with no military or industrial value.
Hey - ISIS is at war with America. Does that make it OK for them to bomb a mall? A school? According to you - that is FINE.
“If we had lost WWII - many Americans would have been put on trial for crimes against humanity. We bombed enemy cities with no military or industrial value.”
Ok, so you are on record that you think American WWII vets are war criminals who escaped justice. Noted.
“Hey - ISIS is at war with America. Does that make it OK for them to bomb a mall? A school? According to you - that is FINE.”
No, for the situation to be comparable, we would need to be shooting at them from a mall or school, giving them cause to shoot back, and then it would not be a crime. Just as it isn’t a crime for Israel to bomb a hospital in Palestine if Hamas is firing rockets from it.
Note all you want. The victors of a war make the rules. If we had lost WWII, there is no doubt the firebombing of Dresden and Tokyo (little to no military value) would have resulted in war crime trials.

Now you are contradicting yourself. Dresden and Tokyo had little military value. The allies firebombed them anyways causing 100,000s of deaths. You can't have it both ways.
“Now you are contradicting yourself. Dresden and Tokyo...”
No, you are mixing your metaphors. I was replying to your comparison about shooting at a mall or school, not the bombing of Dresden or Tokyo. You didn’t even mention those until the post after the one you are quoting me on. Try to keep it straight.
