A high school honor roll student encouraged her friend to kill himself before raising thousands of dollars for suicide prevention, according to authorities.
Michelle Carter, 18, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Conrad Roy III, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in his idling truck in Fairhaven, Massachusetts last July.
When Roy texted Carter that he wasn't sure he should take his life and had climbed out of the vehicle, she allegedly texted him: 'Get back in.'
Carter, who was 17 at the time of Roy's suicide, was indicted on February 5 and arraigned on an involuntary manslaughter charge the next day in New Bedford Juvenile Court.

Abhorrent as I find the idea of saying who can and can’t have children, I don’t believe this woman could ever be entrusted with the care of a child.
Bet the democrat political machine will be scarfing this young lady up. She has so many outstanding qualities she could be groomed for president.
“She is a cold-blooded demon.”
She might be into witchcraft, Femunism, be an eco-nut, or her parents are Leftists.
A desire to market herself combined with an activist mentality all rolled up into a sociopathic lack of empathy. She watches her “life” from the outside like a tv show or cartoon, and decided that the sympathy and recognition she’d get for “losing” her boyfriend to suicide and starting a fundraiser for suicide prevention would look really good on Facebook. Good thing she was stupid and got caught. There are an increasing number of such detached, cruel and heartless people hiding behind the appearance of doing good.
You are right, that would have been a lot better.
Maybe they were always out there in the same percentage, but we didn't realize it.
Sometimes I look at the people in Walmart and wonder, "Could these normal-looking people be as crazy as those folks on the Internet?"
If she loved him, which she obviously did not, she would have called his parents, and she would have moved heaven and earth to get to his side to talk him out of it.
I wouldn’t imagine any more bullcrap charges. This woman is surely evil, but please....so-called ‘victim’ is a willing human being who should know better. If he is such an idiot and a stupid message affects his decision-making this way he certainly don’t deserve to waste oxygen and really needs to get eliminated from a gene pool.
Re: “But Manslaughter by Text is not only an IDIOTIC charge but something that sounds like it came from The Onion or Saturday a Night Live!”
The question is - does encouraging a a suicidal person to go through with it make the “encourager” an accessory to the act of suicide? Is that criminal? This was not an anonymous poster on some comment section of a website. She knew the victim personally. She knew he was suicidal.
Had this girl been there in person or talking with him directly on the phone - is there a difference from that with texting him in real time? Texting is not the issue here - it is the act of helping someone kill himself that is the issue, not the means by which they “helped”.
Nope ... it’s not illegal to tell someone to kill themselves.
I think about half the population would be in jail now, if it was ... LOL ...
This will come under the US Supreme Court’s ruling about HIGHLY OFFENSIVE SPEECH ... which can drive some people so crazy that they may feel compelled to commit a crime by merely hearing that highly offensive speech ... but it is allowed.
Good point.
LOL! Great scenario - more gruberment control over EVERYTHING!
“Son of Text” - teh printed voices made him do it!
She and her girlfriends would never forgive you.
Ever.
Ummmm ... except for the fact that I don’t think she intended to be his caregiver ... :-) ...
Right. I did know that when I posted, hence, the question mark. But, she is getting attention and may be perceived as a hero for her suffering - isn’t that the premise behind Munchausen by proxy?
Well, the psychology of it all ... I just don’t know. I do know that “Manslaughter by Text” sounds like “The Onion” wrote it ... LOL ...
Me neither.
I do think she is evil and contributed to his death somehow.
Sure, she was a factor in persuading him to kill himself. But, there just isn’t the legal authority for “talking someone to death” ... or in this case ... “texting him to death”!
