DAYTON-- Identical women's and men's products are being sold at different price points in Ohio.
The phenomenon is known as "pink tax," and we put some products to the test.
One-a-day "Pro Edge" vitamins, 50 count, are packed in the same sized box just different colors; the women's vitamins cost $9.49, while the men's cost $7.99.
Up&Up women's shave gel for dry skin relief costs $2.39, while the identical product for men, packaged in a blue cartridge rather than pink, costs $1.87.
The Gillette Fusion men's razor with five blades and packaged with two extra cartridges costs $10.79, while the women's Gillette Venus Embrace razor with five blades and packaged with two extra cartridges costs $10.99.
When all three items were purchased for each gender, the receipt total for the women's products was $22.87, while the men's totaled $20.65 (pre-tax).
"Its frustrating, I'm not really buying it for the packaging or the aesthetics," said U-D student Claire Cooperrider about the so-called "pink tax."

Yep-prices aren’t just set by cost, but also by what the market will bear.
I'll whisper this with the back of my hand up to the edge of my mouth, "Buy the guys'razors. They don't use cheaper steal."
The stupid hangs low and heavy, like a thick London fog, over this article; permeating every sentence and obscuring any intelligence the writer may possess.
well, because they’re willing to pay for it. The solution would just to be charge everyone more.
I am blessed that I married a lady who hates shopping.
I’ve been told during my brief stint in retail that women return goods at a much higher rate than man do but, who knows? I doubt there’s much difference in the razors, certainly none with the shaving cream. A savvy woman would just buy the men’s product.
Women are charged more because they are more gullible. They will believe anything you tell them.
Women are charged more because they are more likely to dither, change their minds, and return stuff.
“I have one bottle of shampoo in the shower..”
I HOWLED at that line... it is the same way in our house. With two daughters.. the poor guy is overwhelmed. Finally, he asked, “What is the pink bottle for?” I responded, “dead ends”. “What’s the blue bottle for?” I responded, “flyaways”. He asked, “What’s the green, yellow, orange and clear bottles for?’ I responded, “oily hair, normal hair, dry hair and color treated hair”. He asked which one should he use? I said, “oh, any of them”. He shook his head and walked away. LOL!
Simple really, because women are willing to pay more for pretty packaging. Men are more driven by price, which is why 95% of advertising is aimed at women.
Women get to watch men being characterized as dumb on TV, and in return they show the advertiser that they really are dumb in real life.
Alternatively, we could establish a federal agency to set the price of every item on every store shelf.
Them paying extra for shave gel (and not getting paid as much for work) is a surcharge.
“I am blessed that I married a lady who hates shopping.”
Mine claims she hates shopping. She must be a masochist.
Discrimination! Patriarchy!
Style and prestige aren’t free. Guy stuff is gross.
Because women are more concerned with preserving their youthful looks.
The market has proven they are willing to pay the higher prices.
Obama will fix this with a “man tax”.
That’s right. Eat you peas. Besides you probably voted rat anyway.
Because women are stupid — and vain — enough to pay the higher price.
“Im sure your wife would point out that everything she bought was on sale.”
Yup. . .gotta spend 160 bucks to save ten.
Just say’n. . .
Just wait until there are 57 versions, one for each nuanced gender type.
