My son was born in Nova Scotia. He died an IS extremist in Syria. (Blowing chunks alert!)
The Globe and Mail ^ | Tuesday, Feb. 17 2015 | CHRISTIANNE BOUDREAU

Christianne Boudreau has campaigned about the recruitment and radicalization of young people in Calgary and across Canada. She is currently involved in establishing Hayat Canada, a group which supports families to assist with deradicalization, and helping to form an international mothers’ organization for those whose children have fallen prey to violent extremism. A little more than a year ago, I received the news that no parent should ever have to hear. I was told my child had died.

The death of one so young is impossible to understand. For me, my son’s death was particularly incomprehensible. Damian was killed in Syria, fighting for an extremist group, aged just 22. But although he died thousands of miles away from home, the seeds of his radicalization were sown right here in Canada.

Damian became a Muslim when he was 17. Like many young people, he had experienced some difficult issues when growing up, and was trying to discover his own identity. Becoming a Muslim had a calming effect on him. I was happy too, because for the first time in a long while, he seemed content.

**Becoming a Muslim had a calming effect on him.**

Apparently it did nothing but get him agitated.

Did she and her husband divorce when the boy was young? That seems to be a common thread in the background of many of these Western jihadists.

Actually, from what I read, this mother is trying to educate other parents and concerned people in Canada about the dangers of radicalization of their youth.

You're right. This mother woke up late, way too late, but it seems like she's trying to do the right thing now.

Lost him to a death cult. Wouldn't be the first wayward youth to do so.

The bad news is that a family is devastated at the loss of their son.

The good news is that he's dead.

From what I've read so far very few youths from non-Muslim families become Islamic radicals. I can't believe many non-Muslim Canadian youths are attracted to Islamism same as American or other western youths.

We are seeing more and more of them.

John Johnny Walker Lennon DooDoo Lindh became the American taliban.

Who the hell knows what Nick Berg was up to (met the 19th hijacker, went wandering in Iraq, then became a hostage of Al Qaeda).

I think even the 19th hijacker did not come from a muslim family.

Cassius Clay became politically radicalized by the black separatist muslims in the Nation of Islam. His parents didn't like this change in religion or worldview.

It happens in the US and UK to yutes (often who come to Islam through prison or rap).

Some people were becoming communists when we were fighting communism. I wonder if there is something like a monetary payoff of some psychological payoff.

Your boy went to Syria to kill other women’s sons and you can’t comprehend why he ended up dead?

Uh huh, Christianne, and where was the father (sperm donor) in all of this when you were watching your white Canadian son turn into a swarthy-assed bearded Habib down at the local mosque?

This Christianne Boudreau chicky is having one hell of a good time being a minor celebrity in Canada through the death of her bone-brained retard son and his damned bipolar disorder and 'learning disability'.

She's got all sorts of fashionable pictures of herself lounging around and attending this international conference and that, gay as a spring lily right up until it's time to put on a frown and relate the story about her wayward jihadi killer son.

Oh, isn't she the bravest thing in all of Canada? Oh, what that woman must be going through. There but for the grace of God go we. And let's all now listen to her opinion on Canadian national policy regarding the wellness efforts of returning Canadian jihadis from foreign wars.

Teens searching for an identity and place in the world are ripe recruits for Radical Islam..... I can only hope I've raised them to recognize when they're being taken advantage of.

You get it. A lot of these lost, angry youth come from families where parents didn't bother to instill values or provide clear direction. It's the sign of a morally lazy parent who trots out the adage "I don't want to impose my morals/ethics/religious views on my children. I want them to make up their own minds." Right, using what as a standard? Would a parent say "I'm going to let my 3 year old decide for himself whether he wants to play in the street or not?"

Yeah, some people just want to rebel and will pick the furthest thing from what their society finds acceptable to do that.
