Shhh, don’t wake the aliens, warns Hawking

Meanwhile, scientists have learned what people would say on making first contact with aliens and it is not “take me to your leader”.

Instead, they are much more likely to ask the extraterrestrials for help. Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence scientist Doug Vakoch said: “One of the striking commonalities — men and women, young and old — was a message ‘please help’.

“A sense that we are in a very precarious time in our development as a civilisation,” said Dr Vakoch. “Our technologies are greater than our social stability. So if we make contact with another civilisation that may be more advanced they may have got through the tech bottleneck and may have some advice,” he said.

“Since Christ took on an (eternal) human nature to redeem us, it seems like it wouldn’t be fitting for God to have created other equally rational beings, also in need of redemption, to be redeemed in a lesser way.”

That is a very thought-provoking yet simple way to look at it. ALL of Creation is touched by sin. And Christ’s death was for ALL of Creation, once and for all. I will try to remember it when after watching some alien show I get to thinking “Well....ya never know!?”

Now Bigfoot - I still hold out a chance they are real!

Hawking and his “fellows” are nuts, sautéed in his celebrity.

There's nothing nuts about being cautious as far as signalling to a more advanced civilization that we're here for the taking.

I have to agree with Hawking on this one...

"Christ’s death was for ALL of Creation, once and for all."

I am often struck by the narrowness with which people view "All of Creation".

Either there are "many mansions" from which a few strange relatives may be expected to appear in the afterlife, or Christ's "(eternal) human nature" is subject to a bit of interpretation.

Of course, it could be that all of the possible worlds out there which could be inhabited by human beings already are inhabited by human beings, with perhaps some differences between them that seem quite negligible to the Divine.

If they ever come - which I doubt as the distance scales are so vast, and they’ve only had the same basic time frames to develop in anyway - I’d want to know how they did it.

Thanks for taking my theory seriously. Not many people have 8-) Many great Christian thinkers, like C.S. Lewis and Peter Kreeft, have taken seriously the possibility of extraterrestrial life, but haven't tried to reconcile it with the fact of the Incarnation.

You're right in what you say. Christ's death would certainly have atoned for the sins of other rational beings in the universe.

But imagine the reverse. Imagine if Christ took on a Martian nature to redeem Martians and humans. It just wouldn't seem right.

If there were other beings, all which would have been made “in God’s image”, and created for God’s benefit - why would God work so hard for us to get it right here on Earth?

Might be easier to just send the flood, forget about Noah, and concentrate on Cygnus X-1 where they have a better handle on God.

However, no matter WHAT planet beings were on, sin would be present.

And, God cares about the tiniest sparrow - so even if there were a billion other created planets with beings on them, He would STILL care about us.

I wonder what purpose God might have for creating other planets with beings on them? Maybe He tried a whole bunch of times until He got the results He wanted.

Hoever, being God, and knowing what beauty is (and we recognize it as well because we are made in the image of God), I’m guessing He didn’t need a bunch of trys, and if He did, they would all be pretty similar to what He created on earth.

I really wish that I was the one asking the questions in these investigations.

No doubt the people would not like my approach, but if they cooperated I'd be able to get to the heart of these things a lot better than the UFO investigators out there now.

Near as I can tell they only ask people what they saw and get details of the witness's account. Maybe take measurements, etc.

But there is a lot more to the entire phenomena than can be understood by merely interviewing eyewitnesses. Many questions need to be asked (including many which would seem irrelevant or impertinent to the witness) if anyone is ever going to get to the truth of the matter.
