Could we stop the anti-vaxxers if we said measles contains gluten?
The Globe and Mail ^ | February 6, 2015 | TABATHA SOUTHEY

At the time the British government announced the Longitude Prize, shipwrecks were a grave problem – many people died, ships and cargo were lost. It was decided that a reward in the form of what would be millions in today’s dollars should be given to the person who devised a method by which a ship’s longitude could reliably be determined – making accurate navigation possible.

Ultimately, the prize was successful. Many lives were saved. Faced as we are now with alarming outbreaks of measles and whooping cough, we need a similar competition.

Who, 50 years ago, would ever have imagined we’d need to promise a reward to the person able to persuade wealthy, educated parents to do this small thing for their own children – of whom they seem quite fond – and for those who come into contact with those children, about whom one hopes they’d give a damn.

Yet here we are. There are schools in the wealthiest parts of Los Angeles where the vaccination rate is on a par with that of South Sudan – fashionable tinder boxes of measles waiting to go up. Pertussis (the far-less-fun-than-it-sounds “whooping cough”) is making a dramatic comeback.

That is really funny.

But why do you want to inject mercury into your child?

Nobody wants to inject mercury into a child.

Vaccines don’t contain mercury. They don’t even contain thimerosol.

I’m not really in the vaccine fight one way or another, but obviously the writer has NO idea what went on in the effort to find longitude. The myth and profit mongering were intense. Meanwhile the guy who actually did it was screwed for nearly two decades. What a terrible example!

Or, aluminum.

“Vaccines don’t contain mercury. They don’t even contain thimerosol.”

Please don’t cloud the issue with facts.

If the pro-vaccers are so sure of the harmlessness and efficacy of these vaccines why do they feel the need to force them upon others? Didn’t their families get the vaccines and are therefore immune? With O-care no one can seriously argue it’s to reduce public health care costs. In fact many of the pro-vaccers were also in support of Obamacare.

Kids can’t get the vaccines until they are 12 months old. So when your unvaccinated mongrels bring measles to daycare, it puts the young ones at risk. try to keep up.

Flu shots most certainly contain mercury. It’s on the label.

Never mind my earlier remark. Now I see why the writer chose to use the Longitude Prize as an example. She is obviously an expert on all matters:

“Tabatha Southey expounds on the benefits to showering with other women

By
Tabatha Southey

I begin my days as I believe every woman should: by showering naked with 25 or so other naked women. I can’t begin to tell you the difference that this can make in a woman’s life. After a few years in the locker room, everything seems okay, much seems beautiful and nothing surprises me at all.”

This most certainly qualifies her to lecture us all on vaccines.

How many children died of measles last year? How many children died of the measles vaccine last year? Two decades before the invention of a measles vaccine, the death toll from measles had been reduced to less than two per 100,000 cases. Why do so many people have their undies in a bundle over measles? Why are so many people eager to inject infants with a vaccine at a time when their immune systems are potentially not mature enough to manage it, that kills ten children a year. Oh, yeah, the money ...

I've seen a lot on this lately and I have a question. Is it an all or nothing type of thing?

With our child, my wife and I had our daughter vaccinated for the more serious threats, and where the vaccine had a long history without complications. We chose to forego other vaccines and we spread out the ones we did have our daughter take.

When it comes to our government/medical complex looking out for our best interests, or lining their pockets, I'll opt to be overly cautious. What really turned me off to mandatory vaccines was when, instead of making the case that Gardasil was a good thing to do, they bribed enough politicians to make it mandatory for school attendance. As a marketing ploy, making vaccines mandatory is a lot cheaper than actually making their case to the public that will be forced to take these shots.

Direct from the CDC's website: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/vis/vis-statements/flu.pdf

Read the last paragraph in section 2 (right hand column, just above section 3).

I read the part where it said it was harmless. Is that what you meant?
