Do the New England Patriots Prefer White Players?
TruthLamp ^ | 11/17/2014

Does the front office of the New England Patriots prefer to have white players on its roster? There is circumstantial evidence that may be the case.

While the racial makeup of an NFL team in any given year has its share of random fluctuations, the New England Patriots have seemingly had a suspiciously large amount of white players on its teams during the Robert Kraft-Bill Belichick era.

Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Danny Woodhead, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, and Tom Brady — all have been some of the more prominent “faces” of the franchise in recent years, and they all happen to be white.

Truthlamp huh? How about there are way too many black people on basketball, football, and track teams? What that’s ok? Why would that be?

They’ve “gone Latin” in the past 12 months, plus they brought Torri Hunter back.

The have a black superstar in the minors about to reach the big this Summer (Buxton).

Wow! Not much Twins talk on FR.

Twins have always liked Hispanic players, from the start. Nobody in any sport passes on a superstar-type player based on color.

Since the start of the Terry Ryan era, there’s no evidence of the Twins avoiding black players. Twins do have a rep for liking certain kinds of personalities such as soft-spoken hard workers.

The Red Sox were the last MLB team to integrate.

1959 with Pumpsie Green.

And supposedly they "passed" on a young man named Willie Mays.

Imagine having Say Hey playing for the Sox in the 50s.

They'd probably have broken their WS losing streak by 1957 if they signed him.

Instead of waiting until 2004.

How would a Yankee pitcher like to face Williams AND Mays?

I noticed a reduction in “after play is over celebrations of an excessive nature” in this Superbowl, but I’m hardly a football fan of any expertise or experience. I’m white. Right or wrong, I’ve linked “show-offs” to black players. I’ve thought it was a cultural thing, not better or worse, just different. Very different sometimes!

I'm speechless. The Patriots win AGAIN and the "problem" is too many whites?

The US population is only 15% black. Perhaps any NFL or NBA team with more than 15% blacks is racist.

after listening about how racist we are here in the south for ever,
It sure was enlightening watching Boston desegregate its schools.
Far more uproar than anything seen here in the south.

But whether for PR purposes, economic reasons, or some other factor, it’s an apparent pattern over the years that is difficult to overlook.

The "some other factor" appears to be a desire to win.

I had this conversation with a neighbor right before the game. When we boiled it down, he was rooting for the team with more black players, because they had more black players although he really didn’t care for Wilson. I told him if I said that about the Pats, I would be considered racist.

I don’t know if he favors white players. Belichick likes players who are mature, persistent, tough, team players and smart, as well as having skill and physical attributes like speed and strength. If you staff a roster just going by skill, speed and strength, you’ll probably get a disproportionately black team. If you evaluate other factors, you get a more representative team.

Malcolm Butler, for instance, is a Belichick kind of player.

“I don’t know if he favors white players. “

I was being sarcastic when I made my comment——I should have noted it as such.

I am just so incredibly weary of the “race” stuff.

In reality, most of us have come to expect the black supremacy when dealing with sports and no longer care!

As you may have noticed, I can be rather cranky sometimes. So my son and his dad were watching the super bowl and I stopped for a moment, as I passed through the room, to find out the score. The camera flashed on Brady’s face and I said “Gosh, I did not know they still let white men play football.” The predicted meltdown ensued. : )

Belichick likes undervalued players.

Brady was a sixth round draft choice.

Gronkowski has been on a pace to be the best TE ever, drafted in the 2nd round.

Woodhead, from a division II school, originally an undrafted signing then cut by the Jets after not significantly being used for a couple of years (first year was on IR).

Julian Edelman was a 7th round pick.

Welker was traded for right along with Moss...with Moss for a 4th.

Amendola came into the league undrafted, but he was a significant free agent signing as an attempt to replace Welker.

But you also have players like Malcolm Butler, an undrafted FA who no one else wanted. Vollmer, a top RT, and a top 10 LT, taken in the 2nd round, but who hadn’t even been invited to the Combine.

...and so on.
