I recently tried to pawn some guns for my mother, who is 72 and was need of some quick cash. An old friend is the manager of a pawn shop and ran my name though the data base to see if I could get the guns back if pawned, because I had a prior conviction of class d felony due to DWI's, and didn't want me to lose the guns. I was denied..... I received a call from the ATF, saying I wasn't in trouble but they needed me to sign some papers. I'm freaked out, I have changed my life completely from the past. Does anyone know what consequences await me?
I’ll face this head on, and post back the outcome if at all possible. I appreciate all of those with constructive posts. For all of those who got their jollies from messing with the newbie.... your welcome. Keep up the good fight but know all is not is as wicked as they want us to believe. I trust in humanity and karma is a mother. Not all or most on this forum are jaded morons, but where room is made, they push in droves when accepted.
Unless you had a Class III firearm, I would be surprised that ATF would call, it would be your local Sheriff/State Police that would be calling, although if you felony had something to do with a bomb / bomb making materials then probably ATF would be called in.
BUT if you knew this WHY would you even get involved in the process, nothing could come out of it with the retrieval of the firearms.

And the hoplophobic morons will STILL say it’s not an infringement.
Where every story starts with, "I can't believe this happened to me..."
Yeeeeeah, right.
Looking for legal advice from non-lawyers is a bad idea. I actually gave you good advice.
Never talk to the police if you are a suspect in any way.

Odd isn’t it, that the same non-violent offender felons who are prohibited from owning guns are now seeing their voting privileges restored (including violent felons)?
Which does more harm to the country as a whole?
Get a lawyer. Agree to no meetings, direct all ATF contacts to the lawyer.
You fool. You will not be posting.
GET A LAWYER. DO NOT MEET WITH THE ATF. DIRECT ALL ATF CONTACTS TO YOUR LAWYER.
I went through mine, way back in 99.
That is incredibly foolish on the part of your friend.
See, first of all, he committed fraud by submitting the NICS check without an actual transfer being attempted or intended. Big no-no.
Second, in the eyes of the ATF, a transfer was attempted or intended, so they now get to discover the whereabouts of the fiream. Not sure if the law allows them to seize the gun(s), but at a minimum, if the guns are now in your possession, with the FFL having run NICS, the FFL is now in deep crap, because as far as the ATF is concerned, an illegal transfer occurred.
Lawyer up!
Sorry to hear about your mom’s knees but it’s good that it was she that took the guns in. Hang in there and don’t get too wound up until you know for certain what’s happening. Hopefully the law works for you and you did nothing wrong but nowadays I don’t have much faith in our government following the rule of law. Hope you don’t drink over this as it seems you make bad decisions when you drink. :p Good luck and maybe try some prayer.
There’s a story about Nick Cage doing mushrooms with his cat.
Thank you. Sober 5 years 6 months and 21 days. If I can go through almost getting divorced without drinking, I’m sure I can handle this. Celebrating 11 years this June. DWI laws in Missouri or ridiculous. If it had been drugs ,the charges would not have been as severe. After talking to a lawyer I was told it is more than likely a formal warning as to ownership and a document saying if I try again, before the issue is resolved and I regain my rights, I cannot claim ignorance. That’s exactly what it was, the agent was very direct but kind, no flames shooting from his eyes, I went through document throughly.... asked questions. Apparently I can have as many black powder, or pre-1865 as I want. Crazy stuff. Thanks again to all those who helped in a time of needed perspective.
Seek actual legal counsel.
“Thats exactly what it was, the agent was very direct but kind, no flames shooting from his eyes, I went through document throughly.... asked questions.”
Good to hear. I had some IRS forms that I hadn’t filled out properly and they were late too. I called their number and the gal was very helpful and friendly.
I’m not sure what the odds are, but I would guess that a majority of these folks in the gov’t are fairly understanding while still following the rules. But you never know when it might be someone that will come down on you.
Sounds like you are on your way getting it sorted out without too much hassle.
