When Angela Ihegboro first saw her newborn daughter, she was speechless. Shes a miracle baby, the 35-year-old mother said yesterday. But still, what on Earth happened here? What happened is that baby Nmachi is a blond, blue-eyed white baby born to two black Nigerian immigrant parents at a London hospital.

Not really rare but not common either.
WHAT A COMBO..Steve Martin Ihegboro... whew1
Mr Ihegboro said “Angela, you got some ‘splainin’ to do!”
Think of the ramifications if she had been born in Nigeria. She would be stolen and carved up for potions.
Yes ive heard that the backwards folks there... have some fairly strange notions about albinos
Once you go white you are alright?
Yeah, Baby Nmachi needs to check her White Privilege.
Now that's just disturbing!
Poor girl. Now she has to get good grades if she wants to get into a college.
lol - certainly worth checking on.
This happened not long ago in Beijing. Ming Wong and Ng Wong gave birth to a little white baby. Mrs. Wong insisted she’d done nothing wrong, but the skeptical Mr. Wong decided to take the family to the local wise man. He took one look at the child, shook his head sadly and said, “I’m sorry, but as all wise men know, two Wongs never make a White.”
Damn, beat me to it.
I remember reading about genetic switches; that certain gene can be switched off or on, depending on the environment. Could it be , long ago, that as people moved into hot sunny areas, the melanin-producing gene switched to an on position, as protection against skin cancer, and people moved into cold climes with less sunlight, the melanin gene switched off, so the skin could absorb enough vitamin D? Could it be that since this family from Nigeria moved to England, with far less sunlight, the gene switched somehow off, and that perhaps we might start seeing a lot more of this? That black people living in cold wintry regions of the world, face vitamin D deficiency which might cause this gene, if it exists, to switch off? If this is the case, black people will start having white babies as time goes forward. Are there any geneticists out there who could comment?
The infant clearly has African features. It will be interesting to see how much her skin darkens over time. I imagine it will darken. She’s a cute little baby.
The baby was automatically declared at fault for his unconcious micro-agressions brought about through his white privilege.
Most people are not familiar enough with genetics to understand how this can happen, and while it IS rare, it CAN happen.
The fact is that the gene associated with “blackness” is actually dominant over “whiteness”.
Therefore, it is possible for 2 black parents to have a white baby if both black parents are carrying the recessive white gene.
Conversely, 2 white parents CANNOT have a black child, again because the white gene is RECESSIVE.
Right, getting the babies and the parents mixed up would be far from a first time, well, ok but it has still happened.
There are some tribes in Africa that have a high rate of albinism. These children are generally shunned and/or killed.
I have saw several black babies from white mothers and they looked just like this one, but their dads were black.
I have never saw a baby from one black and one white parent that looked all white, much less two black parents.
