NAACP Responds to Muskogee Officer Involved Shooting

Tulsa's NCAAP is speaking out after the Muskogee officer-involved fatal shooting. The president, Pleas Thompson says it is proof there is a 'shoot first, ask questions later' culture.

Thompson sat down with Channel 8 to view the raw video that Muskogee police released. He feels the officer could have avoided shooting, since Terrance Walker was seen running away.

Thompson says the shooting only damages the relationship between the community and the police department.

"Police, as well as elected officials, have to be more sensitive that you know there is this mentality out there of shoot first and ask questions later and I think emphasis should be placed on trying to take those people alive," he said.

Thompson says there have always been police officer involved shootings, but that now there is a heightened awareness.

The only thing the local cop did wrong was not come with a swat team in that part of town.

The perp had previously threatened his ex-girlfriend with this pistol already. The perp then shows up at this wedding uninvited with his pistol. He ran, pulled his weapon fumbling and dropping it, picked it up again and ran some more. The cop did exactly as he should, very likely saving the girl’s life. Even the locals on the scene were satisfied, after all, they are the ones that called the cops in the first place.

That’s a good point; when the NAACP realizes that body cameras just show their peeps acting like Michael Brown in the convenience store, they will label them as racist.

A friend in law enforcement probably had his career saved by a microphone he was wearing during a traffic stop. The unassimilated minorities concocted a story about him using racial slurs (but were smart enough to avoid filing a signed complaint), then dropped the matter when the recording completely vindicated him.

I think cops are paid far too much here in NJ (we have many making six figures) and they can retire much earlier than the taxpayers that foot the bills for them, but recently the job has gotten much more unpleasant. Not necessarily less safe (the recent attacks were just given more publicity than other attacks on cops over the years), but now they have to walk on the same eggshells that those of us working in offices have been dealing with for decades.
