CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. Ever since he was a two-year-old boy, Dylan Johnson has had a passion for vacuum cleaners. Dylan, who has autism, was never into normal toys, his mother Jodie said. The Swift Creek Middle School student turned 14 years old over the weekend and celebrated his birthday with a party that included close friends, family and a vacuum salesman.

Neat story.
What a sweet story. I’ve never heard of these vacuums before, but I’ll keep them in mind.
I still remember the electolux saleman who came to our house, years and years ago. I doubt I was more than 5 or 6 years old. But he did this demo where he let us kids hold steel balls (to us they were SO heavy) and showed how the vacuum could pick them up. It made a great impression, and yes, my mom bought the vacuum. And I will say that vacumm lasted for decades.
I was a Kirby salesman for one week. Great vaccuum. Too expensive. I loved the sander sttachment, though.
Kirby is sort of the Cadillac of vacuums
My parents bought a Kirby back in the ‘60’s and it still works!
My MIL still has her Electrolux - it reminds me of a dinosaur. But, that thing works still!!! Probably going on 35-40 years, at least. But, most likely even more!
One of my best friends has a son with autism. He, too, would love something like this as he loves to know how things work.
Last night, his twin brother, Spencer, was diagnosed with astrocytoma, a brain tumor. It is very large, he is having surgery in 2 hrs, and all she has been told is that it doesn’t look good.
Sorry to put this here but, prayers are appreciated.
We bought one a couple years ago. Best vacuum we’ve ever had. Pricey, but worth the cost. We have the model shown. It works very well as a carpet shampooer, as well. Everything comes with it in the purchase, and you can send it for maintenance and they’ll refurbish and replace old parts as part of the contract. We could not pay all up front and they gave us a military discount. They took our old vacuum for the price we paid as a trade-in. After the first year of monthly payments, I tripled and paid the rest off in 6 months, so we paid it off in a year and a half instead of 3.
Yep, our Elecrolux is well into its third decade of use. It is used on a near daily basis.
Nice story. Glad it worked out like that. And if that’s mom, she’s not guilty of anything, ever.
Yeah, the first thing I noticed was mom’s incredible lack of guilt!
A prayer for your friends.
Such great difficulty and pain.
I think of how easy it is to wallow in minor setbacks and anxieties.
God delivers such trials to some people. One can’t help but pray that their rewards are all the more glorious in the end.
They are lucky to have you close to them.
Prayers for Spencer and his family.
It's repetitive, easy to take apart and fix, simple to use, and has an understandable function. And, it has an immediate, and visible reward for its use - there's dirt on the floor you want gone, so you run the vacuum over it, and "poof!" there's no more dirt.
How many times has your vacuum not gotten something up....so you bend over, pick the thing up, and throw it in front of the vacuum to try and get it again? Would be a lot easier to put the bit of whatever in the trash, but no.... I catch myself doing this, occasionally.
“And I will say that vacuum lasted for decades.”
I’ve still got an Electrolux Model M (1959). It needs a new cord, but the last time it was plugged in it worked. The “new” Electrolux is from about 1970 and I still use it.
But the trash is at least 20 feet away. The vacuum cleaner is right here...
Prayers to your friend from a survivor who had a tennis ball sized mass removed from his head. It proved to everyone I had too much brain for my own good . . .
