The NCAA received another serious blow to its credibility today.
In court documents filed Thursday in the Paterno lawsuit, Oregon State President and then-NCAA Executive Committee Chairman Ed Ray admitted to not actually reading the Freeh Report the entire basis for the NCAA sanctions prior to sanctioning Penn State in 2012.
In his testimony in the Paterno Familys ongoing case, Ray said he was unaware that he needed to prep for anything related to the Freeh Report before the organizations executive board met to discuss possible sanctions on the University.
Instead, Ray spent time in Hawaii where he was unable to read the entire report. Ray said he returned on the 19th or 20th and approved the consent decree on the 21st without actually reading the report that was the basis of those sanctions.
Its worth noting that the entire Freeh report was viewable and downloadable online for the entirety of Rays trip and two days before.
So I may have looked at the executive summary when it came out, and certainly read press accounts, but I dont believe I read or was able to download and get a copy of the full report until after I got back, which was about the time of the press conference [announcing the Consent Decree], or something shortly thereafter, Ray said to Wick Sollers, the Paterno family lawyer.
Rays complete testimony, included in a footnote, is below:
It’s not about money (though it will change hands in the end). It’s about getting guys like Ed Ray and Emmert under oath to explain their actions. Many more to come. This case is early in discovery at this point.
Be honest Joe, if that was your 14 year old daughter in a shower with a 55 year old man hearing and seeing what MM stated, you would stomp his guts out just like every other rational parent witnessing that.
Regardless what anyone claimed did or did not happen!
I’ll take an “E” for $1000.
Obama will take a “J” for $100 and change.
Another leftist asshole from Oregon. That state is riddled with them from Portland to Evergreen (Everred) to wherever.
What is God punishing such a beautiful state?
I wasn’t there. Neither was JVP. That’s a question for MM. My guess is what he saw was probably creepy, but nothing near what the PAOAG presentment sold the media.
I do know that V2 (the MM victim) has stated on numerous occasions that nothing happened in that shower that night.

The NCAA needs to take the Indians out of their home of Indianapolis, Indiana.
SHit.. I read it... every word. And, I don’t work for the NCAA or PSU. But then, I wasn’t in Hawaii either. :-)
Yes he does. When he's not making excuses for Paterno's role in covering up child rape, he's posting other bread and circus nonsense, like Penn State women's volleyball results.
Also, Paterno's own words are more than damning enough. You don't need to read the Freeh report to know that these selfish, evil, cowards at Penn State deserved to pay.
Huh...I don’t think that Paterno ever lived in Austin, did he?
Statutory rape.
If the dude in the shower was Joe Paterno he would smile with approval ...
What is the status of the Spanier prosecution?
Spanier, Curley, and Schultz are to be tried together in one trial. So they say. It’s been 3 years.
There was a ruling yesterday where a PA judge punted on Cynthia Baldwin’s testimony. Considered a setback for CSS, but I still don’t see this ever seeing a court room.
There’s simply no evidence.
This is a huge disappointment today. We knew it was coming, but this is not good news. This was a backroom deal cut by the 11-11 b.o.t. and the ncaa (two of the crookedest, dirtiest, smelliest groups of people you could find).
Hopefully Judge Covey will see this as what it is - an effort to stop embarrassing discovery and an even more embarrassing trial - and allow the trial to proceed.
It was never about wins or a statue that looks like Art Modell. It was about the truth. Corman just allowed the b.o.t. and the ncaa to slink back into the dark shadows when he was on the 5 yard line with a 1st down.
Very disappointed today.
ESPN radio just announced the entire abrogation of the consent decree which afflicted PSU. Patternos wins restored, everything.
Only cost them $60 million
