The NCAA received another serious blow to its credibility today.
In court documents filed Thursday in the Paterno lawsuit, Oregon State President and then-NCAA Executive Committee Chairman Ed Ray admitted to not actually reading the Freeh Report the entire basis for the NCAA sanctions prior to sanctioning Penn State in 2012.
In his testimony in the Paterno Familys ongoing case, Ray said he was unaware that he needed to prep for anything related to the Freeh Report before the organizations executive board met to discuss possible sanctions on the University.
Instead, Ray spent time in Hawaii where he was unable to read the entire report. Ray said he returned on the 19th or 20th and approved the consent decree on the 21st without actually reading the report that was the basis of those sanctions.
Its worth noting that the entire Freeh report was viewable and downloadable online for the entirety of Rays trip and two days before.
So I may have looked at the executive summary when it came out, and certainly read press accounts, but I dont believe I read or was able to download and get a copy of the full report until after I got back, which was about the time of the press conference [announcing the Consent Decree], or something shortly thereafter, Ray said to Wick Sollers, the Paterno family lawyer.
Rays complete testimony, included in a footnote, is below:
The ncaa is in serious trouble. In the other case (Corman vs. ncaa, PSU) they are on the verge of opening themselves up to millions upon millions in civil damages.
In this case (JVP vs. ncaa), I don't see how they escape. The wins will be restored anyway, but that isn't what Sue wants. She wants their heads on a fence and a very, very public apology.
Since when are athletic organizations responsible for handling criminal punishment?
Send someone to jail through the court system or don’t.
The athletic organization should not ‘sanction’ anyone or any organization except for violation of the organizations rules.
Did the organization itself run a child sex ring? Jail the perpetrators. Put other people in charge.
(I suspect this was a center for this type of behavior and so they are ALL covering up for each other)
So basically you think that sports are more important than child raping.

Well The Cavs ha World /Be Free for awhile
What Willie Green was to trains, FlJoePa is to absolving Paterno of any guilt in what happened in the football program he headed up.
Given a choice between the two, I'd take Willie getting re-instated, thanks.
“You can’t make this sh*t up. Freeh’s fairy tale summary and espn/usa today is what they based their punishment of PSU on. “
The headline said he didn’t read the report.
“So basically you think that sports are more important than child raping.”
This is about family money. JP’s son has two suits against PSU.
He read the summary - which was knitted somehow by freeh to do just what his customer (the PSU b.o.t.) paid him to do - justify their firing of JVP.
Nothing in the actual report even comes close to backing up freeh’s summary. Everyone read the summary. No one (not even the ncaa) read the damn report.
“Nothing in the actual report even comes close to backing up freehs summary.”
Paterno is told that Sandusky is banging a kid in the PSU showers and he sits on it all weekend because he didn’t want to disturb anyone’s weekend ....
Well, that's a nice story. Not remotely true though. MM has claimed in his own testimony that he never reported seeing anything sexual to ANYONE. Ever.

He reported a nude Sandusky in a bear hug with a nude boy with slapping sounds. Nothing sexual about that!
Well you just said he told Joe he witnessed a rape. I think there’s a pretty big difference.
“Well you just said he told Joe he witnessed a rape. I think theres a pretty big difference.”
I didn’t say rape. Just repeating what MM said. I think he referred to it as a ‘very sexual position’.
family money? did JoePa have a PSU pension that survive death that PSU admin is trying to wiggle out of?
what’s the money angle? if there is one, that would explain why the rush to judgement on JoePa (if they knew of his condition, which i’m sure they did)
“Well you just said he told Joe he witnessed a rape. “
Interesting. You have just made my point. I didn’t say ‘rape’ but any reasonable person, including you, would conclude that it was rape.
Except for poor old JoePa who said he had never heard of a man having sex with another man.
WTF! The dude had to be senile to say that!
Again, you don’t know what he told JVP or TC or GS. That’s his testimony in the js trial 11 years later. I’d love for the TC/GS/GS trials to somehow go forward so he (MM) could testify. After 3 years I don’t see that trial happening though.
“family money? did JoePa have a PSU pension that survive death that PSU admin is trying to wiggle out of?”
No. Jay is just ticked that he lost his job at PSU. Says PSU had no right to fire him.
