First I want to see the piss mutthamed version and maybe a few other mutthamed versions of the disgusting things they have done to sacred Catholic and Christian symbols, let’s see that happen without worldwide jihad and maybe we can talk.
It isn’t a matter of accepting either of them but at the heart is the rejection of the idea that one is justified in killing because of an offensive cartoon or piece of art something that Islamists are prone to do.
Remember: Charlie Hebdo strives to be offensive. Their tagline is “irresponsible journalism”. Such is more normalized in France than in USA.
If you can not tell the difference in the two religions one that will kill you if you mock it, demand you convert or die that has not set up one single freedom based society and one that will just look at you in disgust if you mock it then you have missed the boat by a long shot.
The conversation is about fighting for the right of free-speech, not accepting blaspheming art or not. The conversation is about one religion that can not get along with others without killing and enslaving.

Piss Christ is offensive! It has absolutely NO artistic nor moral values, and adds NOTHING to any kind of discussion about Christ, the Church, or the participants of Christianity. Piss Christ, as a conversation piece, simply says, I can’t draw, but I can pee in a jar and drop in a crucifix.
As such, it doesn’t bother me. My complaint about Piss Christ is that Federal Funds (OUR TAX DOLLARS) paid for it! THAT was really offensive and should be STOPPED!
On the other hand, Charlie Hebdo, as you stated, is an equal opportunity offending publication and it is meant to get the mind thinking and people talking. It is a satirical magazine, designed to challenge peoples thoughts and comfort zones.
I don’t think about, nor care about Piss Christ, because it is a useless, Liberal talking point. If you are upset because someone made it, then you are a hypocrite in demanding they not make it. Again, my only complaint is using taxpayer funds to pay the “artist” to make it!

I can't begin to count the times we here in FR have analyzed a situation and answered the problems of the world, only to have another entity do something really, REALLY stupid and / or evil and make more of a mess than what we started with.

No, the fact is what is not tolerated is typically what goes against a protected group and the reason this magazine got away with publishing those cartoons is because France does not place Muslims under such protection (not like England and Sweden do). In the UK however, anti-semitic cartoons are a-ok.
