That is one major “oh sh#t” moment, watching that boat motor away from you and knowing you are miles from shore in the cold Atlantic. Tough dude, both physically and mentally.

In my younger, more vital days I swam a mile just to see if I could. I had a guy in a boat with a trolling motor following me, just in case.

It says right here that mile was enough.

Why didn’t he have a safety harness? I was watching a documentary on Netflix called “Maidentrip” about 15 year old Laura Dekker sailing around the world alone. Everytime she was on deck she had a safety harness to keep her from getting separated from the boat.
