The spay and neuter clinic just called and told us one of our kitties we took in this morning died. Would you please find it in your hearts to send up a little prayer for Cuddles. She was such a sweet little thing.
Sorry to hear about your poor kitty.
I didn’t want to click on this link. I love cats. I talked my first one out of the bushes when I was two. My Mom taught me how to say “Here kitty kitty. Big feral male. Called him Big, after cleveland radio host Big Wilson. That was 66 years ago. I’ve always had a cat. My home would seem empty without one! Lost a wonderful girl just recently. I’m shedding tears for you! God bless Cuddles! I’m going to brush Mao right now, and be thankful she has me!
I’m so sorry. I did a queck check on deaths from spaying and neutering. Found these stats....
In 2009 our low-cost spay/neuter program sterilized more than 10,000 animals, including 4,600 free surgeries for needy Texas residents.
Death
(intra-operative anesthetic death) 12
(preexisting conditions, such as canine heartworm, FeLV, FIV, parvo, rat poison, etc) - 7
TOTAL - 19
Several studies done on elective spay/neuter surgeries at universities and private practices have shown the following rates on routine complications:
Postoperative - 14%
Serious - 4%
Death - 0.1%
Spay Neuter Networks overall logged rates of complications for the 9227 surgeries in 2009 were:
Postoperative - 2%
Serious - 0.7%
Death - 0.2%

I’m guessing death is probably about 0.1 to 0.2% across the board across the nation.
That is very low. But when you factor in that some of these pets were ill and sick to begin with, and you consider how many tens (hundreds maybe) of thousands of operations are done each year - and then figure in questionable “chop shops” like you experienced - then I’m sure deaths occur on a daily basis.
bgill, I’m not attempting to console you with these facts and stats. I hope you don’t take offense, I just wanted to understand how this could happen.
God bless.....
it always breaks our hearts when one of the innocents dies.

Prayer for a Dying Pet
If it should be, that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, cant be won.
You will be sad, I understand.
Dont let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
Weve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears.
Youd not want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs theyll tend only,
Stay with me to the end,
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will see
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering Ive been saved.
Dont grieve it should be you,
Who decides this thing to do,
Weve been so close, we two, these years
Dont let your heart hold any tears.
Smile for we walked together,
For a little while.
You have a good heart.
So sorry that Cuddles is gone. Hard to lose any animal, but a sweet young kittie must be unbearable.
May God bring peace to your hearts and arrange a special pace on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge for cuddles.
Oh, my. Thankfully, your puppy is ok. This low cost place is run by volunteer vets so I need to get names so we’ll never use them. We’ve had our regular vet forever and the only time we had problems was when he was on vacation and another vet wouldn’t do anything for our dog so she died. That was a dozen years ago and I still cry over missing her. It’s our fault for not sticking with our good vet.
I am so sorry. Bless you and your baby.
Prayers for you and your wonderful girl. They’re so innocent and trust their human families.
Saying prayers to St. Francis of Assisi the patron saint of animals. My wife and I rescued a little kitten who showed up in our yard a month ago with a broken leg. We took her to the vet and they put a splint on it hoping it might fuse the broken bones together but it didn’t so they had to amputate her leg. We keep her with us now. We call her ‘’Peanut’’ because she’s so little. Be at peace my friend, may the Lord mend your broken heart and know ‘’Cuddles’’ is at peace in Heaven.
Thank you for those numbers. Never again will we take any of our pets to anyone but our regular vet.
Thank you for taking care of Peanut.
I’m off now. Hubby is home with Cuddles so need to take care of things.
Thank you all for your prayers.
I am so sorry for your loss. You will meet again in Heaven.
Next time, go to an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Assn.)
veterinarian.
I’m glad that you’ll never take any of your precious pets to the
people who killed Cuddles.
You can look up the vets in your area and find out if they’re
certified by AAHA.
My husband and I have had great service from our AAHA vet.
Darn! Now I’m tearing up again! Thank you! She was exceptional. She used to crawl up on my shoulders, wrap herself around my neck, and purr herself to sleep.
I’m wondering — is it possible the kitten was suffering from a hidden health problem that the economy clinic was not checking for.
I had 2 kittens I had adopted spayed at my ordinary vet’s office. The instructions said to be careful they should not be allowed to jump where they could hurt themselves while the surgeries were healing. I shut them in an unused bathroom with a scratching post, visiting it to change their water, food, and litter. After one week, they managed to break their scratching post. I figured they were strong enough to go in the house by that point.
I’ll pray for your little kitty....God bless you...I’m so sorry!!!
I agree with you here...Amen...
Thank you. I’m glad ours is okay, but my heart breaks for your kitten. We, too, felt we should have stuck with our regular vet, but the cost for her to be neutered would have been $215. Big difference and at the time that mattered a lot.
*huge hugs* to you.
