It’s another reason I want replays to go away.
It ruins the flow of the game, it’s hard to get excited for a play when you know now you’re going to have to wait 5 minutes to find out if it stands up.
Just assume the bad calls wash each other out in the end. Ditch Replay!
As many people are agreeing...physical control really does equal possession. Tell me when it doesn’t.
I don’t know why the officials need five minutes to review a call. Seconds after the play, the networks are showing replay after replay from every angle and the viewers at home already have it figured out. I assume the officials in the booth have access to a television set. They should be able to make a decision within 60 seconds after the whistle blows.
Unfortunately because of the once a week structure of the NFL it’s the most over analyzed sport with the most urge to make all call right no matter what. All the other sports could have the worst call ever happen today and tomorrow night everyone will have moved on because there’s a whole new slate of games. The NFL doesn’t have that, bad calls today get talked about until next week’s games. I think it’s why they’ve gotten so fond of Thursday games, shortens the week, shortens the shelf life of bad calls.
Good news the IND-DEN game is pretty awesome so far.
Because the rule book says you don’t have control until AFTER you complete contact with the ground.
I say you have a central office watching the games. If a call isn’t immediately obviously wrong, the play stands.
The rule was misinterpreted. Bad call.
I agree, the rules are too subjective. He clearly had the ball caught and the rest could be easily be interpreted making a football move taking steps and diving towards the end zone. That call ruined what would have been a great game.

I agree! It's terrible when the game is not decided by the playing on the field.
As a lifelong Browns fan, you can imagine that I am pulling for the Colts to beat Denver. It would be nice to see Josh Cribbs get to the Super Bowl.
He completed contact with the ground.
I can’t believe Vinateri missed a FG.
Not by the rule book. Again compare to Calvin Johnson. By the rule book “complete contact with the ground” basically means come to a stop or get up on your feet and start running. He was still bouncing, so he hadn’t completed contact.
Manning and the Donkeys getting booed at home.
I’m pulling for the Colts here, just because I like rooting against Manning. But of course who ever wins here is just gonna get killed next week in New England.
I know he says he’s coming back, but if Denver loses today I think Manning is done.
Wow Manning is like the best guy ever.
I hate the Colts and Denver because of their owners, but love Manning.
By any account I’ve ever seen, he’s a stand-up guy. Even the sports writers here in Indianapolis still revere him.
Hard to say.
The thing about Manning is he has a future career in almost anything he wants to try.
broadcasting, coaching, team management, business, or who knows.
I’ve got no good reason to dislike Manning. And really I don’t. I just like watching him lose.
