I’ve held it. Haven’t shot it. Feels nice in your hand.

The video shows a very considerable muzzle rise - up to, say, +50°. Probably hard to keep on target if the shooter has to fight the gun.

How is this much different then the .357 sig?

I think its been out since the 80’s. Seem to remember reading about it in the late 80’s Shooting Times magazine.

The .357 Sig is actually a S&W .40 necked down to 9MM. This makes it .355 not .357. The round was named such because it's goal was to make a .357 equal in an auto round. Whether or not it did is a matter for debate and I'm sure this thread will not disappoint.

If you want a 1911 in a high-power round I would go with the 10mm. It’s a round that was designed for auto-pistols. The .357 is rimmed for use in revolvers, which leads to feeding issues that are unnecessary.
If you want a .357 caliber I would go with either a .357 SIG or .38 Super, again both rounds are designed for auto-pistols. The .38 Super is a really fine round that dates back to the 1920s, and was designed to give more penetration than the .45 Auto.
All of the above have the advantage of not needing to do a lot of redesign of the basic 1911. The .38 Super is available from Colt, Springfield, and many other manufactures. The 10mm is still made by Colt and Dan Wesson, and probably some others.

From my limited research, the .357 Sig was developed to match the performance of .357 mag 125 gr. factory loads. The ballistics I have seen show that it comes close. With heavier bullets though, the mag pulls away in performance.

I really wanted one when they first came out. Couldn't afford one.

“rimmed ammo in an auto?”
Not ideal but can be made to work. All .22 rim fire auto work this way and the Bren LMG used the rimmed .303 British round.

I fondled it at the LGS and declined to purchase it. I already have an 8 shot .357 that I never carry and $1,400 puts you into DPMS gen II territory. The Glock 29 is a better edc pistol imo and you can buy two of thwm for the price of the Coonan. Of course, if money were no object, I’d buy one.

+1 on the 10mm. If the op wants a 1911, more power than a .45 and if he wants my opinion. OTOH if he wants a .357 there sure are a lot of good revolvers out there, lever guns too.
Hey... One of each?

An interesting new round: 45 SMC. (Cut down 308 round, and a small magnum rifle primer!)
Double Tap has it in stock. It fits in a 45ACP pistol, but you have to use a heavy recoil spring.
185gn 1350 FPS
230gn at 1130FPS
Screaming fast round.

Or .460 Rowland. beats the SMC.
Although you pretty much have to use a compensated barrel to make it work in a handgun.
