An interesting new round: 45 SMC. (Cut down 308 round, and a small magnum rifle primer!)

Double Tap has it in stock. It fits in a 45ACP pistol, but you have to use a heavy recoil spring.

185gn 1350 FPS
230gn at 1130FPS

Screaming fast round.

Or .460 Rowland. beats the SMC.
Although you pretty much have to use a compensated barrel to make it work in a handgun.
(Mine is a carbine)

I looked at that .45 SMC about a month ago and felt no immediate need to turn in my .460 Rowland Glock 21. The .45 SMC, as I recall, had no support for reloadable brass or load data which means you are going to have to pay premium ammo prices to shoot it. The .460 Rowland makes more power and brass is readily available and reloading data, though not as available as .45 acp for example, is still readily available so a common middle class kind of man can actually afford to shoot it. Once it gains more support, I'll take another look at it though.

.460 Rowland-12 grains of Hodgdon Longshot behind a 230 grain Hornady XTP from a 5" barrel:

1,336 fps-911 ft/lbs of muzzle energy

.460 Rowland-13.5 grains of Hodgdon Longshot behind a 185 grain Hornady SJWC:

1,503 fps-927 ft/lbs of muzzle energy

.44 magnum-Federal 240 grain Hydra-shok JHP from a 4" barrel S&W 629 mountain gun:

1094 fps-637 ft/lbs of muzzle energy

.44 magnum-Federal 240 grain Hydra-shok JHP from a 4.875" barrel S&W 629:

1227 fps-802 ft/lbs of muzzle energy
