The dog has prostrated himself to provide the kid a step so he can wash his hand.
The dog knows and loves the kid. The dog has a wider view than extreme political correctness of people that have dogs and not kids

That dog looks stressed to you?
Besides, how do you know that this isn't a cultural norm among Native Americans?
Trig and his father, and his brother and sisters are all registered tribal members, except for Sarah.

It appears Trig sees the dog as an “inanimate object” rather than a flesh and blood dog that could be hurt.
It was a teachable moment IF she had explained to him the dog could be seriously hurt by standing on him/her. Plus, as some say, if the dog left, Trig would be on the floor, hitting whatever on his way down.
I'm neutral about Palin. She seems to talk in “catchy sayings”, rather than in specifics and that is troublesome.
