It was a teachable moment IF she had explained to him the dog could be seriously hurt by standing on him/her. Plus, as some say, if the dog left, Trig would be on the floor, hitting whatever on his way down.
I'm neutral about Palin. She seems to talk in catchy sayings, rather than in specifics and that is troublesome.

Agreed. If children aren't supervised and taught about animals from a very young age there is a good possibility that they will be injured, even if just unintentionally by the animal. I'm on a ping list for Sarah, but she's human, and this was a mistake.
As an Assoc. School Psychologist, I was the supervisor of a class of mentally challenged students - they were junior high/high school students, most Down Syndrome, with IQ’s about 40-60. I know those teachers would have used that moment of his being on top of the dog, to teach him about dogs being alive and could be hurt.
I have a little grandchild with Aspbergers. The Aspbergers child is often unable to realize the pain they can cause to others.
People used to let him run kind of wild. He got in a habit of slapping people really hard in the chest. Big guys could take it and found it funny. I was sitting on a chair and he ran up to me and slapped me in the chest. It was so hard it took my breath away.
I know he didn’t mean it, but he always got away with it because people let him.
You have to start early helping them to realize what they are doing.
This isn’t a slam on Palin, but I didn’t think this was too cute. That dog is sure a tolerant creature. I am sure Trig does many cute things. This is one others didn’t need to see.
Well said. Hopefully she has already explained to Trig how one should appropriately treat a dog and will continue to reinforce it in the future.
OMG! Lighten up, girl!
