By the time a student gets to college, there should be no spelling and grammar issues. Especially today when every word processor has spell-check and grammar-check.
No excuse. Spelling and grammar issues today are signs of either laziness or indifference, qualities which will guarantee unemployment.
And a piss-poor excuse of a public education system that passes them on.
Ode to the Spell Checker!
Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.
As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore too long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.
Eye have run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect awl the weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

I have just recently taken up texting as a means to convey a very short point or make a short statement without having to take up mine or my recipient’s time with a lengthy phone conversation.
But I will not carry on a long or meaningful conversation over text NOR WILL I respond to ‘textspeak’ which is lazy often illegible typing. I respond by stating that the person is going to have to speak English. ‘Textspeak’ as they call it, is childish and lazy.
