Game's been over for over 12 hours now. How is that not whining? And as far as officiating, the zebras mistakes are a fact of the past, present, and future of this game. Anytime humans are involved in judgment calls it will inevitably happen. And your team isn't the first to suffer this, and they won't be the last.
And as far as your comment about the integrity of the game..... Isn't that a little over dramatic?
Sorry, but like the other 24 teams out of it, be looking forward with optimism for the 2015-16 season.
Thank you...... The integrity of the game was at stake. /s
:: Isn’t that a little over dramatic? ::
Not really. I grew up in the era of Ray Nitschke, Bart Starr, Alex Karras and The Purple People Eaters. When the NFC Central was the Black&Blue Conference. When football was played to exact “punishment” on the opposing team and to embarrass the opposing coaching staff (that’s a nod to Vince L.)
As I said earlier, I fully expect, in my lifetime, to hear a penalty called as “Unnecessary Roughness, Touching the ball carrier.”
Again, if you think that I am “whining” while the entire NFL-and-its-punditry are still discussing this topic, I would have to conclude that you really don’t care about anything but the ‘Aints winning.
And when they don’t? Well...you won’t “whine” about it, will you?
Sayonara
It’s over with; here is some decent film though of the incident itself: http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/157540/detroit-lions-not-happy-with-pass-interference-reversal-call
From this, it’s hard to say the Lion (Pettigrew) did put his hand up in the Cowboys’(Hitchens) facemask.
And so it goes.
Really, I’ve stuck up for the Saints through bounty-gate and have thought it unfair the way they were painted as villains so really, these controversies are part of the game. It is what it is, doesn’t mean Detroit would have won the game, no one scores on this play.
People still talk about the tuck-rule, etc. etc.
Thanks.... Some of my most violent football arguments have been from those who thought our SB trophy should have been pulled or had an asterik, when in essence the "bounty" practice was a lot more prevalent in the NFL than anyone wanted to admit.
The reason why it was NOT a penalty per the referees and per the play on the field is not that the Lion grabbed the facemask of the Cowboy.
The distinction is, is that Hitchins, merely was "Faceguarding" which is NOT always a foul.
""There is no such thing as face-guarding," Greg Aiello, the NFL's vice president of communications told the Boston Globe in 2007 over a similar call, via Pats Pulpit. "There must be contact to have a foul."
Hence, to me, there was only "incidental contact".. no fragrant interference, more important to get the call correct.
The better for all if we are more informed about it.
Jack Daniels?!?
Sacrilege!
As keeper of the FR “bourbon ping list”, I assign you a penance of 4 shots of Woodford Reserve, A Sam Adams lager (to cleanse the pallet) and 5 recitations of “I agree with Grandma Pogue; Bourbon Whiskey only comes from Northern Kentucky and it ain’t filtered through charcoal.”
LOL, I’m not really a big believer in karma (except as a variant of The Golden Rule as a guide to my own behavior) but I do gather it is often delivered in roundabout or indirect ways.
I do know what you mean, though.
Detroit’s punter basically was off-balance and sat on the Cowboy
Apparently a backward pass is okay if the passer is being hit at the time, I never knew that.
It was hard to watch, the Cowboys played very badly for much of the first half but they caught up and won.
Sort of the opposite of the Cardinal game on Saturday where the second half was comedy gold.
Dallas fans did all the whining during the first half though. lol. Mostly at their own team.
seriously though, last week - that Cardinals “touchdown” was not a TD! That guy was all out of bounds except his empty hand happened to hit the pylon. The ball was not in the field of play by that point.
Amazing finish. When the Cowboys could have went for 3 on 4th down to tie it, they elected to go for it on 4th down. Somehow they knew an interference would be called to give them 4 more downs. Interference called by refs on 4th down was their best play to get the win.
Iffen y’all be on a budget, for my money, I’d spend it on Wild Turkey (80).
You can get WT-101 but, really, that’s not about flavor but more about the buzz.
I remember during the first Philly-Dallas game on Thanksgiving when Philadelphia got away with two PI fouls and both Troy and Buck laughed it off as “ the officials letting them play” , today it is a national crises.
Hey Bender did you hear
I may get Rams back in Los Angeles via LA Liars this morning

What makes it seem like PI is the fact the defender had his back to the ball, usually a ref will assume PI on the basis of that alone.
If the ref didn’t throw the flag, I don’t think there is any issue, at best it’s a 50/50 call.
But I have never seen a PI flag picked up, unless it was determined that the ball was tipped beforehand.
