When I was first married and money was tight, I brought the carburetor from a Dodge 318 engine into the house and following the instructions, installed the re-build part kit, put it back on the engine and it ran like a top.
Just yesterday I installed some cool Magpul stuff on my only Christmas present that many might consider gunsmithing.
With all due respect ya da da da ... speak for yourself.
Most of the people I know fix things and handle themselves.

Actually, I have a leftie baby boomer friend who is much more able to do this stuff than we are.

We bought a car and it had problems with shifting and my then husband bought a stick shift and installed it in the driveway (it had been a column shift) and we had a working car. He was no mechanical genius.

I am a boomer woman, and I taught myself how to do minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical wiring many, many years ago, when I could not afford to hire someone to do my home remodeling work. If the Internet had been around then, I could have saved a lot of learning time. Batting my eyelashes at the fellow in the hardware store got me a lot of free advice.
