An Indiana man was mauled to death by his pet pit bull on Christmas Day, Portage police say.
Edward L. Cahill, 40, was discovered on the living room floor by his girlfriend when she returned from visiting relatives for the holiday. Cahill was unresponsive, NBC Chicago reports.
Authorities were called to a home in the 5500 block of Tulip Avenue at about 8:14 p.m. Cahill was found dead on the floor covered in blood and with multiple lacerations on his face and arms, the Portage police report. A county coroner pronounced Cahill dead at the scene and determined his cause of death was from a dog mauling.
According to Fox Chicago, Cahill's pet pit bull, "Fat Boy," was at fault. Police say the dog was aggressively barking, growling and lunging at officers. A stun gun and an animal control pole was used to get "Fat Boy" under control.
NBC Chicago says the couple raised their dogs since they were puppies, however "Fat Boy" has consistently been aggressive. The dog bit Cahill and his girlfriend's son in the past, the police report adds.
Even the most gentle dogs are capable of biting. Golden Retrievers bite many people every year. And I’d bet many of their owners feel like you do about their pet. The problem with Pitbulls is the result of the bite is usually great harm or death. Sadly it’s often not the owner who pays the price. Beyond me how any sane adult could have one as a pet under any circumstances.
My beagle, on the other hand, was so vicious that she had to be put down. :(
Ping to chet99, where ever he is.
“You Can Not be serious,,!!”
I’m joking!
I’m not gonna say BS, I’m gonna come right out and say it...
Bull shit. Saying ALL pit bulls should be shot is a statement made by someone who doesn’t know a thing about the breed. Or, someone who just hates dogs in general.
Pits are like ANY other dog, they have to have a Master, they are pack animals. Are some born nuts? Yes, they are, I’ll be the first to admit it, but that applies to ALL breeds, not just Pits. When an owner has one born nuts, (and they KNOW it, they should have the dog put down). I’m sorry this man is dead, but the reason he’s dead falls on his own shoulders. He knew the dog wasn’t “right”.
But, don’t say they should ALL be shot, that ain’t right.
Or mebbe he got fed-up being called “Fat boy”.

Rye? Sourdough?
Thanks,I needed that!
We have a dog some say is pit (AmStaff) mix.. Have no idea where he came from.. From day he’s been here our short fat dog bosses him around and the cat just terrorizes him and steals his bed.
My husky pulled carpet and pad off the floor, broke lamps jumping over end tables but loved to roughhouse with me..it took a lot of strength to get him down on the floor...he would lay perfectly still I would slowly loosen my arm, he was laying still so he could feel the slight loosening of my arms, that was all he needed, he’d be up off the floor in seconds and away our wrestled match would go, but if I told him to stop, he stopped. Not once did I ever feel his teeth. he was a wrestler not a bitter..
That’s a fair point, but what other canine breed exhibits this type of random killing?

And the winner is the pit bull
And I'm sure if we had an unauthorized intruder she would be doing unto them exactly as I would have her do (with extreme prejudice).
And that's the nicest way to say it.
I have long believed that pit bulls don’t need to be banned but most pit bull owners should be. There are way too many clueless dumb a55es out there that have no business owning a large and potentially dangerous dog. I see them all over the place. They’re morons and they are the reason for the specific laws that affect the rest of us.
I refuse to add sarcasm tags when the sarcasm should be understood.
I admit I don’t enjoy my daughter’s visits as much since she comes with a dog. The current one is a golden retriever/chow mix, very friendly, but she barks.
I sewed the leg back on, but it’s backwards. Kathleen hasn’t noticed.
Precisely
Your conclusion is wrong. Pit Bull do what they’re trained and conditioned yo do. If you raise an attack dog, as many Pit Bull owners do, you’ll get a preponderance of attacks by that breed. If you raise them to be gentle and unaggressive, as I have, you get a sweet, loving dog. This is really not complicated and twelve thousand years of history with domesticated dogs supports my conclusion.
