I plugged in the numbers from when I USED to drink(before I nearly killed my Liver), and I belonged with the Russians! LOL
My specialist told me that the average person is born with “enough Liver” for 9-10 people, and I was down to just 1. I reckon I got my fair use out of it. When I quit, I never had any kind of ‘withdrawal’ or anything, as you often hear about. Just sucks that I’m still relatively young.
I was more of a highly functional ‘drunk’ than an alcoholic. I NEVER missed a day of work, and didn’t neglect ANYTHING in my family/personal life, other than myself I guess. I mainly drank to cope with the 1,000mph high stress job that I had, combined with having lots of kids. It was tough and unnerving at times. At nights, I’d just ‘unwound’ with a few beers when everything was finally quiet for the day. Never thought it would damn near kill me. Oh well...
Oh well....

Your story about your pastor reminded me of a time i had to leave a graduation at Boston Garden early, because i was sick, and the only vehicle available to me was a Harley Davidson 1100 Sporty.
So there I went, down the southeast expressway (I93/95) on the Harley wearing an evening gown and high heels.

Erich Maria Remarque (who wrote "All Quiet on the Western Front") also wrote the novel "Arc de Triomphe" set in 1930s Paris.
The most memorable thing in the book was that the characters were always drinking Calvados, a French apple brandy.

I belonged with the Russians
There was an old Roosky that used to hang out in the neighborhood shopping plaza. No matter what time of day, he was ALWAYS plastered. Only thing he could say in English:
“Me Russian. No speak. Speak Russian. ME RUSSIAN !”

Should make for a good memory, when you are in that rocking chair! It’s the foolish things we’ve done that will make you smile in old age, imho. Those are memories.

That's the best way to get books. New book prices are so high, and the old titles are still good.
I got most of my Agatha Christies at a used book store.
