Their job is to protect and serve – but it seems some police officers interpret this as an excuse to enjoy too many extra servings at the lunch table.
A study has revealed US cops have the highest rates of obesity among any profession in the country.
Along with firefighters and security guards, nearly 41 per cent of boys in blue are obese, according to a study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

Yes, agreed. If you train properly being over weight is definitely a drag and would make it considerably difficult. OTOH I can certainly see how it happens...sitting in a car all day coming out for only short periods. Then again they might see it as ‘why send a man when a bullet can be more effective and quicker’.
I see firefighters frequently at the grocery store (across the street from the fire station.) They are very fit. Rather easy on the eyes!
A good portion of a pig’s job is hiding in the bushes with a radar gun and a doughnut and the opportunity to shoot a dog and talk about being a hero.

So according to you, firefighters have always been fat, and we just never noticed it 20 and 30 and 50 years ago?
I have never heard a fireman describe their job as stressful, instead they love it, that is why it is so highly sought.
Cops and firemen have all the security of government and unions and total financial security, benefits, respectability, insurance, even authority.
This was the same thought going through my head. The amount of stress they deal with mentally and physically, it doesn't take much understand why they can have weight problems.
I wonder what the obesity rate is for motorcycle cops.
What about MPs and all the various military cops, are they fat?

They hate physical standards of any kind.
But, if they don’t stroke out, they all go home safe.

Ya, so thats a diff kettle of fish. The military has (and presumably enforces) a fitness code.

Yes, it does. So, since it does youd think the various regulating organizations would have an enforced fitness code.
If their unions will allow such a thing as standards.
