Maker's 46 bourbon, from the Maker's Mark people, finally hit the local market. Not earth shaking news, I know, but if anyone is a fan of good bourbon this has to be on the list. It's 94 proof but sips like half that, neat, and at room temperature. And, no, I don't have any financial interest, just wanted to share some good news with my buds.
Woodford is fine but my liquor shelf is equal opportunity. I have that and some Eagle Rare, some Bulleit bourbon and the Rye, and a few others just to keep things rounded out.
Thanks for the ping.

Think I’ll pass on the dictaters.
Since you referenced it, Bulleit tastes like the brewer added cane-sugar syrup to the final product.
Sorry, man...it is equivalent to Coke v. Pepsi, too sweet by a half.
I don’t purchase rye but the family has given me rye in the past. I use it for blending.
PFL...
Tater-chips? Not much different on the blood-pressure, brother.
Take an LD-aspirin every 8 hours. Thins the blood but...HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE. You can’t drink enough water during the day; reduces BP, cholesterol and moderates your A1C values.
Im getting quite picky in my old age.
I'm even pickier...Jim Beam in a plastic bottle.
To each their own my good man. I find their Rye makes an excellent Perfect Manhattan.
Best,
L
Likely not new to most of the world, but I live in NC. We have the state control thing going on here with distilled spirits, sometimes you have to beg the local ABC store to order something new. Or they tell you they will order it if you buy an entire case.
Thank you.
“If you have ever watched a loved one go through alcohol withdrawal, you would never touch another drop.”
Many people enjoy it occasionally, and have no alcoholic risks. The abuse of a few does not discourage me from an evening on the porch with a couple of whiskeys. Takes the edge off a cold boring Saturday and is a good thing. And I don’t think its a disease either. No more than too much pizza and linguini is a disease.
Here in Sofia, Bulgaria, Russian vodka Stolichnaya is on sale for $5.75 USD. We are not complaining.
Blantons
I’ve had it, including a nip at the Makers Distillery.
In the event you don’t know they story, Makers 46 is made from the exact same recipe as regular Makers. The difference in Makers 46 is the insertion of barrel stays from a port wine barrel into the Makers barrel during aging. It changes the color a touch and mellows the flavor as you noted as compared to regular Makers.
There’s a bourbon list?!
Please add me! My favorite sipper is Woodford.
As an aside, while on my trip through Bourbon Country last Spring, I got to talk to the Master Distiller at Wild Turkey. He “instructed” me to always add just a few drops of water to your glass when sipping Wild Turkey. Among a lengthy scientific explanation he said in layman terms it helps the bourbon release it’s true flavor. I tried it and found it did release more flavor. Your mileage may vary.
He also told me on Kentucky Derby Day, his family make frozen Mint Juleps. Partially melt a gallon of mint chocolate chip ice cream and stir in a fifth of Wild Turkey American Honey and refreeze it. Definitely not my kind of thing, I am lactose intolerant and this would make me fart like a Derby Horse, but thought I would share.
Please add me to the Bourbon ping list!
Here is a link I found recently that has a list of where every American Whiskey is distilled. There aren’t near as many distillers as there are brands. There is a distiller in Lawrenceburg, IN that distills for over 30 brands.

It’s delish and I don’t care for regular Makers Mark.
Yes, you want just a little bit of water, but not enough to dilute the proof.
Also, get a set of freezing drink rocks to cool the bourbon without adding melted water to it.
46 is nice, I have a bottle in my collection of over 30 different bourbons, but my two current favs are Angels Envy and Hirsch. I’m slowly drinking down my Pappy and Rip, pretty much by the thimble-full.
I visited MM in KY couple years ago.
Beautiful campus.
They serve the regular and “white lightning” at their bar, samples free.
