'Bullet-looking missile thing' turns heads along highway south of Boulder

It's fair to assume that question was on the minds of many people who traveled along Colo. 128 south of Boulder this week if they happened to catch a glimpse of what appeared to be a large, silver projectile perched alongside the highway and pointed north toward town.

No, its some sort of sensor. Probably a ground radar for sighting vehicles and they are using traffic to practice
I would guess it's simply a precision guided shell, similar to the existing Excalibur program -

Could it be testing automatic target recognition using the passing cars?

Maybe. I’d have to see what else it out there -— e.g., an active radar or microwave source.
I’d also want to know which way was “front” — nose or side.
It just looks an awful lot like things I’ve seen on ground vehicles used to target tanks and the like.
