Beavers are contributing to climate change, adding an estimated 800 million kg of methane to the atmosphere every year, scientists have found.
Over the last century, there has been a worldwide conservation effort to save beavers from extinction. The fur trade between the 16th and 19th century almost led to the annihilation of beavers across the globe.
After trapping was limited and the creatures were reintroduced to their natural ranges, their numbers grew significantly, with scientists now estimating their population to have reached over 10 million worldwide.
Beavers build dams in rivers to create standing ponds,However, the consequence of this has led to beavers building more ponds, creating conditions for climate changing methane gas to be generated in the shallow standing water.

Our public library in this suburban town has a pond next to it. One day surprised I saw a beaver traversing through the tall reeds at one end of it. Didn’t expect to see one at this location.
Just Dam!

It is a standing rule on my land that I will offer $20 for every beaver tail that someone removes from my land.
log chewing, water jokers.
water slapping, flat-tailed rascals.
hey I hate them suckers.
I live in the city. We have beaver set up in the ponds and streams of the local metro parks. Granted we have a large park system that surrounds and intertwines the city, but you see a few if you look.
Four legged ones, too.
After we’ve totally befouled and polluted our ‘nest’ to the uninhabitable for humans stage - it is the beaver who will restore the natural landscape, creating the habitat needed for all other fish, fowl and fur ‘people’ -
Has anybody figured out how much methane and C02 human farts have?
I own a 12 acre lake, as soon as I see the V going across the lake I grab my rifle.
People who haven’t lived around them have no idea of how destructive the little furry things are.
thank god for the European craze of beaver skin hats in 1700 and 1800 we might have had global warming 200 years earlier if the beaver trappers had not removed the threat by over hunting beaver pelts. I guess those fur trapper saved are lives.
Heck Beave, ya little goof!
Beavers, the other Oregon meat. Go Ducks
Beavers = UFO Swamp gas
I’ll take any beaver over a global warming tout : )
Can we sequester all the GlowBull warming "scientists" and other agents provocateur in the Gobi desert without food and water for a month and see if that has a positive net effect on the Earth's climate? I think it will.
(it's somewhat worrying that a thread so titled has gone this long without it)
Save the Planet... Eat More Cows!!
... doesn't work any more? What ever shall we do?
“Save the Planet... Eat More Cows!!... doesn’t work any more? What ever shall we do?”
That’s easy. “Eat More Beavers”. Ask Laz.
Now, see, technically YOU are the one who said it... And I get points for being polite! : )
Laz has been banned from Beaver Threads by the Moderators. Doubtless the complaints from PETA.
