With a win against the estate of late Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle behind him, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura now has his sights on HarperCollins, the publisher of the bestselling memoir "American Sniper."
Ventura filed a lawsuit Monday against the New York publisher, alleging the publicity generated by the book with a "false and defamatory" segment "substantially increased sales of 'American Sniper,' thereby generating millions of dollars in revenues and profits for Harper Collins."
HarperCollins does not comment on pending litigation, a spokesperson said Tuesday.
A federal jury in St. Paul found in July that a segment of the book -- about an alleged bar fight in California between Kyle and "Scruff Face," later identified as Ventura -- was false and defamatory.
The 8-2 verdict, delivered in U.S. District Court in St. Paul, awarded Ventura more than $1.8 million from Kyle's estate for harm to his reputation and unjust enrichment. HarperCollins announced soon after that it would pull the section from the book.

I don't care what was in the book, his actions about it are FAR more defamatory !
Honestly, I believe what was said about Ventura all the more based off his actions.
Someone needs to ventilate this a$$hole.
Just when you thought he wouldn’t stoop any lower.....
Ventura, you're a {expletive}. For someone who claims to be sooo concerned about his reputation you sure seem to be doing everything you can to trash it yourself.
As for increasing sales due to "controversy" over this part - anyone who buys the book just for that is going to be sorely disappointed. It is something like a few sentences wedged in the middle of the book. It is one of many asides Chris uses to give you a feel for the life and attitudes of SEALs. Most people who buy and read the book are probably just looking for some insight into what it is/was like to be a SEAL sniper, what it was like in-country in the sandbox.
Ventura, people don't need to buy the book to find another reason to dislike and disrespect you. You've provided us all the reasons we'd ever need.
For the record: Jesse “The Liar” Ventura was never a U.S. Navy SEAL for one day in his life.
why work when the law allows you to take other peoples’ money.
And NEVER served in Viet Nam.
(i) Ventura being a person who is vindictive, mean, and with a myriad negative personality traits, and;
(ii) the book having a segment that was not true.
Aren't the two sections mutually exclusive?
What the hell is with Ventura??? Going after a widow.
No honor.
I hope this isn’t to much subtlety for you, but he sued the estate, of which the widow was executrix or personal representative. That is one of the big functions of a personal representative - to represent the estate of the decedent and stand in the for the decedent in any actions that are underway at the time of the decedent’s passing. It happens all the time, every day in every state. It wasn’t something out of rudeness or intended to offend his family, it is simply the case that you have to name a defendant/respondent, and in the matter of an estate, that is the personal representative. Other than the fact that this matter had way too much publicity, it was nothing out of the ordinary.
“...I hope this isnt to much subtlety for you, ...”
No need for sarcasm.
I appreciate your explanation.
I’m surprised that Ventura hasn’t been given a tour of the Everglades.
Funny thing is, more people know about the accusations after his lawsuit than before.
Jesse is a sue crazy kook.
and when he was elected governor (minnesota?) how many of you wanted him to run for president?
