The CFB rankings are out and TCU is #3. Surprising. They jumped Florida State. Alabama remains #1, then Oregon followed by TCU and FSU.
Did the new rankings (especially TCU) square with your assessment?
Go Ducks!!!
Until there is a REAL playoff that includes ALL 10 conference champs and 6 at large teams this , just like the BCS is a giant fraud and an insult to college football fans everywhere.
Sorry, U of A will beat them FriNite!!
FSU will really take a dive if Ga. Tech can beat them
GT has the offense to do it, and the defense is improving.
I believe you are right. FSU has not been dominant to say the least, in spite of their unbeaten record.
So what? The end result is you get a true champion. Take all 10 conference champs and the 6 highest ranked teams that didn’t win their conference and determine it on the field. Don’t need any arbitrary commitees or computers.
Nope jus 3 game sets over a two to three week period take the 16 to the final two and the championship game.
The logistics kill a sixteen team playoff. No one will know week to week where they will be playing. The teams/fans won’t be able to make travel arrangements. Won’t happen.
What could happen is an eight team playoff. Sixteen teams in four conferences with a championship game. Then the four teams advance, etc.
Besides there is no reason to include a bunch of teams with no chance of winning, ie, the mid-american, mountain west, etc.
Thanks nortex for checking in with me about this...TCU is a good football team...they have had about as up and down year as any collegiate team has had.
Whipping up on Texas Tech 82-27 and then slipping by a woeful Kansas team 34-30. They just escaped Morgantown with a win and then lost the high scoring affair with Baylor. I gotta imagine that Baylor must be feeling like the red headed step kid today.
I have felt this for a while, there are elements in society that want to keep FSU from this year’s playoffs to show displeasure with Winston, who BTW, had his conduct hearing today. So politics have come full square to College football. It would not surprise me if FSU defeats Georgia Tech this weekend and is then dumped out of the top 4 altogether. The panel has figured out that they can monkey with the ratings anyway that they want to and apparently they will.
First and foremost, should be a team’s won/loss record, followed by strength of schedule. Won/loss record because that is why they keep score. With the exceptions of The Citadel and Syracuse, FSU’s schedule was fairly tough combined with the fact that for every team that FSU played this year, that week’s game was THE game of the year for that team and none of the head coaches of those teams had to waste any time giving motivational speeches to get his team up for that game.
While Winston struggled at times this season, he always delivered when he had to. If he had played in the NFL this season, the bronze statute of him for outside of the stadium would already be on order.
I do believe that FSU will win this weekend. Their defense has grown and is beginning to play like a top 5 unit. The pressure of his conduct hearing behind him, Jameis may return to the form he has displayed throughout his college career.
Other than that, I am clueless...
If a player is on a playoff caliber team for four years, it's possible he could play up to 64 games not counting the conference title games. That's the equivalent of 4 regular pro seasons as an amateur.
I've said all along that the playoff system isn't going to settle the controversies. It will only change the controversy from who is number one and number two to who is number four and who is five, six and so forth.
It's all about the money.
Bullshiite, the MWC has a proven record of being giant killers. In 2008 everyone said Utah didn’t belong on the same field with Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. They are gonna get killed they said. Well lookie here..... Utah embarrased Saban’s boys in New Orleans. Boise St was told the same thing when they met Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Boise won. TCU did the same to to Wisconson in the Rose Bowl. I don’t buy the ESPN lie about Power 5 Conferences and The G5 Conferences. Phuck ESPN, they have ruined the game. They have their heads so far up the SEC’s azz I can see Lee Corso everytime Nick Saban opens his mouth.
FSU has struggled all year. Its low showing against Florida while TCU had a big weekend, well that was enough to push it down.
If you want to get rid of the fraud entirely then the NFL needs to stand up a development league like the one that the MLB has.
And with all of the money to be made on broadcast rights and fantasy football and betting you know there is plenty of fraud with regard to illegal substance abuse, paying players under the table, game/score rigging, etc.
Just watch the games and enjoy them and be comforted in the fact that some players won't have to play a 17 game season in order to determine who's the best that year just to satisfy perfectionists.
I recommend this as the literary image of the day...:)
Because of my location, I'll focus on TCU and leave the 'Noles to you since you're obviously well-versed on that program.
The committee meets midway between Dallas and Ft. Worth in Grapevine at the Gaylord Texan. I have to wonder if there's any proximity effect at all, even minor, at play in their pick of the Frogs? Actually the statement win over Texas probably was the big factor and, to a degree, may be showing that Charlie Strong is getting the Longhorns on track. All that said, I'm glad to see a couple of private schools from Texas getting national attention.
But if Baylor beats Kansas State, they win the Conference, how can TCU jump Baylor, if Baylor beat them, and won the conference.
The thing is, the more teams you include in a playoff, the harder it gets to separate the teams on the bubble.
You would think there’s a greater difference between the 4 and 5 teams then there would be between the 8 and 9, and 16 and 17 best teams.
