Earlier today, it seemed like #BlackStormtrooper might actually eclipse #BlackFriday as a trending topic. Thats because the official trailer that aired Friday for the next film in the Star Wars sagaThe Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and scheduled for release in December 2015opens on a black man wearing a stormtroopers uniform.
The man, who is played by John Boyega (of Attack the Block), pops into view perspiring and panting hard. He is surrounded by desert: in all likelihood the rolling dunes of Tatooine, the homeworld of both Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. And he appears to be in trouble.

Somehow I doubt that he’s playing a stormtrooper anymore than Luke and Han were “stormtroopers” when they went to rescue the princess.

There are comments about this in the article. From what I understand the stormtroopers during the Clone Wars was the clone of Jango Fett but after that task was done and the Jedi was eliminated the Imperial forces recruited volunteers across the Empire. For what reason I am not sure if say the Empire did not want to be dependent on a single source for manpower or some theory about making copies and copies resulted in deterioration of the clones.
In the early days they were but in the days of Han Solo and friends they were largely conscripts and volunteers.

Remember the bar scene in the first film?
[Ponda Baba gives Luke a rough shove and starts yelling at Luke in an alien language which Luke doesn't understand]
Dr. Evazan: [explaining] He doesn't like you.
Luke Skywalker: Sorry.
Dr. Evazan: [grabbing Luke] *I* don't like you either. You just watch yourself. We're wanted men. I have the death sentence on twelve systems.
Luke Skywalker: I'll be careful.
Dr. Evazan: You'll be dead!
This guy is probably a major character wearing a stormtrooper uniform. Like Luke and Han Solo wearing those uniforms on the Death Star to sneak around. Some people seem to make much to do about nothing
Black Stormtropers?
The storm troopers in Star Wars are clones. Theyare clones of the bounty hunter, Jango Fett.
I don’t see how there could be a black clone from a white bounty hunter. And if memory serves me there are about 3/4 billion clones in the stormtrooper army.
As for being white, Jango Fett was Mandalorian, some alien humanoid race.
“You sayin’ a stome troopah cain’t be black?”
The sentient robots weren’t treated very well either.
“We don’t serve your kind in here”.
The writer totally sidestepped any talk of slavery in the Star Wars universe as well.
Did people forget Billy D. Williams’ role?
The whole theme of the second movie was that a Black man would betray his friend because he wanted the white woman.
The first, of course, was built around nazi themes and pageantry.
I never ever saw the second movie that way. But didnt he come back for his buddy in the third movie? Why does the Judas character have to be white? And Star Wars black Judas comes back in the third movie with redemption! /extreme sarc
Who ever fits the Stormtrooper Armour gets the job ,D’oh
I never knew that back story about Star Wars and the storm troopers.
Lots of things went over my head about Star Wars. I used to think that Darth Vader was a robot.
Remember....Luke wanted to go the academy to be a star fighter...so, it seems like volunteers of human form be Ame tie pilots and stormtroopers....due to different I ng heights as seen in IV ... V ....VI episodes...
Princess Leia: "Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"
As far as I can see the clone wars were pretty much two slave armies fighting each other, the droids and the clones.
The clones were so brainwashed or whatever they killed their incompetent leaders, the Jedi, in the middle of battles when told to do so.
