FULL TITLE: "The moment Cleveland cop shot dead a 12-year-old boy in the playground: Footage captures moment officer killed Tamir Rice after mistaking his BB gun for a real weapon"
Cleveland police have released video footage showing the moment 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot dead by a rookie officer who mistook his BB gun for a real weapon.
The boy was shot by Timothy Loehmann, 26, on Saturday after a 911 caller reported seeing a juvenile waving around a gun - but did not know whether or not it was real. Newly-released audio showed that the 911 dispatcher did not pass on this concern to the responding officers.
At a press conference on Wednesday, authorities released the 911 call, police dispatch calls and a grainy video showing the moment the officers arrived and shot the boy.
The footage shows Rice - who the officers thought was about 20 - reaching for his waistband instead of responding to police requests to raise his hands, police said. They fatally shot him just two seconds after pulling up in their cruiser, the footage shows.

“Not sure if that is the same. The first thing children are taught, even with a BB gun, is to NEVER POINT IT AT A PERSON.
Good point.”
No, bad point... who’s going to teach them, their mom?
Yes. He probably would have been lynched if this was 150 years ago and there were no police to be called.
Oh for crying out loud, get real.
The cops just shot him down and killed him, and you want to play the game that he would really be in trouble if the cops hadn’t been there?
You might have noticed that our nation had no tolerance for bullsh!t when we didn't have a nanny-state government that was just a 911 call away.
LOL, worse than cops driving up and killing him?
And I have no idea what America you grew up in, but before 911 was created, the boy was not likely to have been killed at all for doing what kids did all the time.
This wanton killing is modern.
I watched the video.
In my opinion the kid wasn’t posing an immediate danger to anyone (even if it was a real gun) that justified pulling right up to him and ahooting.
They should have held back to at least observe and take in some facts and understand the situation a bit.
They pulled up so fast and shot that I can’t even imagine the kid had time to obey or disobey orders before they decided to shoot.
You can’t just rush to a potentially armed person and gun them down like that.
It’s really a horrific display of awful judgement by the officers here.
If they felt threatened then it’s only because they pulled right up to the danger and gave the kid about half a second to comply or die.
I agree.
There must be more to the story
I’m actually quite baffled by all the arguments here.
The cops unneccessarily forced a split second decision by pulling up to a potential threat so damned fast and forcing the issue.
It’s not like the kid walked up to two cops and reached for his gun and they shot. They went straight up to him and BAM he’s dead. Over. Done. Finished.
Law enforcement cannot operate like like. It’s freaking insanity.
I'm sure he was which is why the police were called. The very people who called were
not sure themselves if it was real or not. Maybe the kid was getting off on the power trip of
scaring people. And most likely didn't realize the consequences of his actions.
Either way, it was justified and he should not have challenged the police.
I simply can't believe people are defending this shooting. This kid had less than one second to comply with an order that could not possibly have been given three times. The statement by the police was that the kid was ordered three times to put his hands up. Watch the video again. The officer would have had to be shouting out the window before the squad car even pulled up to repeat that three times. The cop shoots this kid less than one second after exiting the vehicle.
The kid had a mere fraction of a second to comply, not even enough time to react really. He may well have just seen the cops and was trying to take the plastic gun out of his pants to drop it. We will never know because the cop shot him before it was ever pulled out.
This is inexcusable, and all involved need to be held accountable.
Actually it sounds like the caller was pretty sure it was a toy gun or else he wouldn’t have thought to mention and felt like he should mention it. Either way, the cops drove up and killed a 12 year old with a BB gun, things sure have changed since the 50s and 60s.
Me too!
The tract home we lived in then was just outside a navy base. It had a cool wooden fence in the front yard just like a corral. Both my brother and I. had the western gear ,,, but mostly him. Red or black western hats with whip stitching were had.
Also coon skin caps for Davy Crockett scenes.
We galloped around the front yard and pointed guns at each other. Actually, I don’t remember us doing it outside of the front yard. We were probably too young.
I played jacks most of the time. And made mud pies.
A BB gun is a real weapon. Kids have been killed in accidents involving BB guns. One case I’ve read about involved a little girl whose brother shot her in the chest accidentally. The BB grazed the aorta and she bled to death from internal hemorrhaging.
At the very least, the TSA won’t let you carry one on a plane. That’s weapon enough!
Have you been an LEO or a soldier?
Black illegitimacy was 10-20 times that of whites even before LBJ
just saying
Reality is its loosening of morals too and white illegitimacy has risen much more by a factor
Blacks in 1962...20-25% illegitimate births.....2014.....65-85% depending whose data
Whites is 1962. .05-2% illegitimate births........2014 ....18-25%....again..which data.....but overall a much higher gain....20-40 fold
Hispanics.....2014.....52-60% illegitimate....so much for Catholic morality
Asians....some lower than whites....some higher
Oddly....black illegitimacy was stuck at 10% from 1866-1920 then doubled....likely due to moving north to cities off the southern farms
Anyhow....Great Society hurt no question
But 1960s sexual mores loosening and the pill and hard drugs and Roe all hurt as much....on all races
But the existing issues of illegitimacy....and crime etc...was already much higher in black communities
And this is mirrored more or less worldwide....with some notable exceptions here and there
2 freaking seconds? And..
“Newly-released audio showed that the 911 dispatcher did not pass on this concern to the responding officers.”
Well I’d think that was a relevant piece of information. Isn’t it? But these days incompetence is the norm. Can’t trust the Prez, the Congress, the VA, the IRS, governors or certain states, much of the police force, and 911 operators. Who did I leave out?
Why do you ask? I do not disclose my personal information on public forums.
Yes, this is exactly what I was just thinking. This and the guy selling cigarettes and the guy in the stairwell...the autistic guy in the movie theater, the homeless man Kelly, etc.
Definitely there were other ways of handling the situation but as we’ve talked about in the past, it’s all about the officer going home safe at the end of the day. Gotta love that new “training.”
