Global Warming Is Already Locked In, World Bank Says
NBC News.com ^ | 11/24/2014

The world is locked into 1.5°C global warming, posing severe risks to lives and livelihoods around the world, according to a new climate report commissioned by the World Bank. The report, which called on a large body of scientific evidence, found that global warming of close to 1.5°C above pre-industrial times – up from 0.8°C today – is already locked into Earth's atmospheric system by past and predicted greenhouse gas emissions.

Such an increase could have potentially catastrophic consequences for mankind, causing the global sea level to rise more than 30 centimeters by 2100, droughts to become more severe and placing almost 90 percent of coral reefs at risk of extinction."A world even 1.5°C [warmer] will mean more severe droughts and global sea level rise, increasing the risk of damage from storm surges and crop loss and raising the cost of adaptation for millions of people," the report with multiple authors said. "These changes are already underway, with global temperatures 0.8 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial times, and the impact on food security, water supplies and livelihoods is just beginning." The World Bank called on scientists at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Climate Analytics and asked them to look at the likely impacts of present day (0.8°C), 2°C and 4°C warming on agricultural production, water resources, cities and ecosystems across the world. Their findings, collated in the Bank's third report on climate change published on Monday, specifically looked at the risks climate change poses to lives and livelihoods across Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa.

“More desalinization plants. We’ll drink down the level of sea water.”

I agree! Simple solution to a non-problem.

At relatively low levels of CO2, well under 2000 ppm, there is some evidence of mental alertness reduction in humans.

"Does this mean that someone will sell me their oceanfront land in the Florida Keys for pennies on the dollar now???"

Excellent thought. You'll get no takers even from the most radical global warming fear mongers. You just haven't got your mind right yet. ;o)

I always go to my bank for a climate forecast.

I remember as a kid the local bank used to give the time and temperature. :-P

Too bad the global temperature is trending downwards.. a degree cooler would be far more devastating. However there isn’t anything humans can do or not do to alter global climate so give up on the man caused CO2 driven hoax

The bank in our town has a sign on top that gives time and temp. It has been broken for over twenty years and gives the wrong time and temp.

No, the display still works it’s just off by 20 - 40 minutes and the temp is always 10+ degrees warmer than actual. So it’s never right. I don’t know why they haven’t just turned it off.

The man-made global warming fraud is a distraction from:

1. The fact that the green revolution—large, centralized agriculture owned by a few big corporations—is nearing its peak. Too many acres used, engineered weaknesses in crops, etc.

2. The extended solar minimum. Temperatures may fluctuate much colder at times over the next 4 years or so. Get ready.

3. Magnetic North heading the other way and gaining speed (don’t see NOAA’s revision of previously stored data). Weather patterns are moving into odd areas in odd ways, and changing magnetic field problems might have something to do with that.

Knowledge is power, and some folks in some markets like to keep inside knowledge from paid research groups to themselves. Some folks in some markets would also like to keep impending, wide scale difficulties to themselves in order to prevent changes in markets (e.g., the transition to much more distributed and less centralized production).

Some solutions for individuals and everyone:

It's a tourist town so it must confuse a lot of people too.

"Are we late?" "Is it really that hot?"

There’s no way to settle the science within what is currently possible for mankind to know and measure.

It’s like trying to solve for 100 variables with 20 equations. Rotsa ruck! There are models which predict stasis or cooling, but nobody is looking at them because it is the wicked old denialist Oil Companies that have produced them.

The Buffalo mega lake-effect snowstorm came from frigid air, unusual for November, coming across a warm lake, usual for November. That should make global warming believers’ heads spin, but it won’t.
