This being the punch line of my Favorite Joke Of All Time. I agree, it's certainly the funniest one liner I've ever heard. Well, maybe it's a two-liner. But aren't most one-liners actually two-liners? Hmm.
Another thing is, every time I try to tell that joke, I get no laughs at all.
It was Mr. Dangerfield's timing and funny facial expressions that made it such a punch-to-the-gut belly laugh.

Understanding the humor in “The Nairobi Trio” is like understanding faith. You either understand it or you don’t.
An alumni from The Ernie Kovacs show was responsible for the guy on the tricycle who would just fall over on Laugh-In. Elvis Presley wanted to do that bit but his manager would not let him do it because it was not “dignified”. So, I believe that I would have enjoyed Elvis’ sense of humor.

If Peter Sellers was not mentioned almost immediately I was going to be very disappointed in this group.

Found that in the bargain bin yesterday and watched it last night for the first time in years. I nearly herniated myself laughing over the JFK Bay of Pigs inscribed photo.

“Jonathan Winters in Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World killed it.”
There was a real interesting interview where he talks about that. IIRC he had been out of work before then, drinking, a stay in a mental hospital, suicidal thoughts, etc. Really dark.
I think he said something about how the scene in the gas station allowed him to vent a lot of stuff! And helped him more than his therapy!
The gas station scene:
