There have been actors that have made people laugh since the days of Charlie Chaplin. We all have our favorites whether it's John Candy is or Robin Williams. Who do you think are the three funniest actors of all time?
"He said okay, you're ugly too."
Jonathan Winters in Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World killed it.
Lots of good names on the list. I was sorry that Mel Brooks, Marty Feldman and Gene Wilder didn’t make anyone’s lists.
Jackie Gleason
Bob Newhart
John Candy
Steve Martin
I think Hope was the greatest entertainer of the last century.
Vaudeville
Radio
Movies
TV
Live shows
Military trips
Sang and danced
Great at all of them.
Restricting this to actor/comedians, some of whom were “before my time”, but I’ve seen their work:
Dick Shawn (VERY underrated)
Dean Martin
Robin Williams
Bob Hope
Zero Mostel
Groucho Marx
Jack Benny
George Burns
Gracie Allen (The TV show was 30 years ahead of its time)
Curly
Any mention of Mel Brooks movies, has to include Kenneth Mars, he usually played bit characters, but they were usually the funniest characters.
Peter Falk and Billy Crystal in Princess Bride
Peter Falk and Jack Lemmon in The Great Race
Now if I had to narrow it down to just one...
Winters as “Gunny”, and as The Old Lady: “I have aches all over ma’ body”.
Hah! Now I resemble her.
Monte Python (what if fings was to start breakin’ colonel)
Eddie Murphy (Mr. Rogers neighborhood/hot tub)
Chris Rock (you low expectation having MF)
Sam Kinison (oh! oh! oh!)
‘75 SNL cast
Chris Farley (Matt Foley, Tommy Boy)
Adam Sandler
I know he’s not a big star or anything, but whenever I see Jon Lovitz I crack up. It takes me back to his Pathological Liar skits on SNL. He can always make me laugh.
In addition to the many named, let it be my pleasure to name: Mr. Bean, Mr Basil Fawlty and W. C. Fields.
Jonathan Winters.
Mel Brooks was kinda hilarious but not without help.
I would give the award to Lucille Ball. She created funny.
A very close second would go to Carol Burnett and her entire supporting cast.
“Young Frankenstein” was a great one. Everyone in it was good.
Eddie Murphy “Delirious” still cracks me up even today.
