Red Skelton was good to watch but I thought he was more entertaining than funny. There is a difference.
Also the Marx Brothers could be really funny.

Jack Benny and Paul Lynde could crack people up with just their facial expressions, body language, or a word or two. Maybe Rodney Dangerfield was like that, too.

Oh, yes—the Marx Brothers; and when I was a kid—The Three Stooges!
So many good ones in days gone by.

Jackie Gleason was a riot. :) Also Frank Fontaine (Crazy Guggenheim).
Jackie Gleason had him on because Jackie thought he was hysterical, and Gleason didn't think that of very many people.

This is from a 1927 Laurel and Hardy silent film with (I think) Chester Conklin as the aggrieved owner of the house that L&H demolish as Conklin demolishes their car. It turned out that they shot the film at the wrong house, and Hal Roach had to pay to get the house rebuilt.

I forgot the Three Stooges. I actually did not like them when I was young back in the 50s and 60s. Eventually they got funnier and funnier.
