I still have the memory of my father buying me a Davy Crockett outfit, complete with a coonskin cap, evokes columnist Lewis Grizzard. Another Crockett fan, Russ Kane, says it was a staple of his childhood:I was four years old [when the series came out]; I still remember wearing my coonskin cap with its furry tail, as my friends and I pretended to hunt bears and shoot unruly bad guys.

They still sell coonskin caps at Frontierland, not real of course. i go to Disneyland often here in SoCal and always think the real things were probably onsale on my first visit there too.
Off topic, but radio host Don Imus once won a wager with one of his staff, Sid Rosenberg, who then had to appear on camera wearing a Dale Evans cowgirl outfit with red skirt, vest, cowgirl hat & white sequinned boots while singing Happy Trails to You.
Rosenberg left the show soon after.
;^)
Isn’t the term “coonskin” offensive now?
Great, innocent days! Every time I get together with my old gang (we’re all in or rapidly approaching our 70s), the consensus is growing up in Detroit in the 50s was the best place in the country. Our imaginations took us out to the frontier.
Heh, heh, while everyone is looking for Frontierland coonskin caps, for some reason I want a Fred Flintstone Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes horned headgear. With the Grand Poo-Bah crest.
Where I would ever wear one, I don’t know. Maybe to an Elizabeth Warren fundraiser.

PETA would have a cow.

“He prefers David.”
Went to his birthplace in Limestone, Tennessee in midwinter cold and gray a couple of years ago, along the swiftly moving Nolochucky River. The park ranger was the only other one out there, besides my daughter, son-in-law and grandaughter.
‘Sort of haunting....
whoever taught that kid to shoot a pistol was badly misinformed!!!!BAD IDEA!!
you are right!!, I recieved a 12 gauge pump shotgun for my 8th grade grduation gift from my parents.(l953) We're from Wisconsin and I'd already hunted for a few years with a borrowed rifle.
I still have, and love the gun.
I had an old, homemade one as a kid. Wish I still had it. It would go wonderfully with my baculum earrings.
That's sweet.
I had a tent as pictured but it was Roy Rogers. my dog Lucy and I had many adventures in the wilds of my backyard..
About that time I remember Fess coming to our town....maybe for a parade. Is that what you were in ?
hey, thanks
My kids had real coonskin caps. Some of the homeschooling catalogs have them. Nature’s Friend? perhaps.
How wonderful. My dad bought me a train for Christmas, actually for him I think. He has some special oil that make smoke come out of the smoke stack. I remember us both lying on the floor looking up at the train as it passed. It is a wonderful memory.
I had six shooters and I was DALE EVANS.
I wanted to have Dale and Roy adopt me.
