The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved Idaho-based J.R. Simplot Co.'s new genetically modified potato. But one of the company's oldest business partners McDonald's hasn't.
The fast-food giant says it doesn't use genetically modified potatoes, the Idaho Statesman reported. "McDonald's USA does not source GMO potatoes, nor do we have current plans to change our sourcing practices," the company said in a statement.

Unlike hybrid seeds, GMO GMO seed varieties are created in a lab using high-tech and sophisticated techniques like gene-splicing.
hybrids naturally cross similar plants. GMO goes far beyond the bounds of nature, crossing different biological kingdoms like a bacteria with a plant.
For example, Monsanto has crossed genetic material from a bacteria known as Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) with corn. The goal was to create a pest-resistant plant. This means that any pests attempting to eat the corn plant will die since the pesticide is part of every cell of the plant.
The resultant GMO plant, known as Bt Corn, is itself registered as a pesticide with the EPA, along with other GMO Bt crops. In other words, if you feed this corn to your cattle, your chickens, or yourself, youll be feeding them an actual pesticide not just a smidgeon of pesticide residue.
Sounds scary. What does Bt toxin do to your cattle, your chickens, or yourself?
We have a few Hardee’s but I don’t recall what you are talking about.
Perhaps it was before my time?
Don’t know your time, but here on the west coast late 60’s early 70’s, before the Hardee’s era of CKE.
>> The fast-food giant says it doesn’t use genetically modified potatoes
Oh, thank God... /g
>> The Free Market is saying we want to know
+1
Those against GM (the rebranding of the term of GMO), know the difference of a crop improved by hybridization, etc., to improve yields, pest and disease resistance, and the genetically modified crops that have Round-up and/or BT infused into the DNA (genome?) of the plant. It has been a while. I no longer remember the scientific terms, or care, what they are. I won’t buy the junk.
There is many studies out there worldwide that are not paid off by Monsanto and other corporations like it. The other’s testing results are in conflict with the claims of those who were paid off by Monsanto. Those who like GMOs can always brag they are eating foods engineered by the companies that made and inflicted Agent Orange on our Vietnam Vets.
I do not care what McDonald’s says, their crap is filled with soy, which is GMO, as is the feed of the feedlot cattle for what little meat in their patties, the flour for their (gummy) buns, the lettuce... Why don’t they complete the picture with GMO potatoes?
Food companies already have the packaging stating whether a product contains GM/GMOs or not if they sell outside of the US or Canada, the only 2 “civilized” countries left who do not make it mandatory to divulge that fact to consumers. Companies also make foods for overseas differently, or the way they used to before selling the US on eating the chemical “equivalents” of real food. You have to order real Ovaltine from England, though it is made here. Americans get the crappy version now.
Or we can label GMO so everyone can make their own choice.
You folks are the ones wanting to thrown untested products into the food supply.
Plenty of haves have been posted to these threads and you ignore everything that doesn’t agree with your agenda. YOU people are the ones seeking to use govt power to force control of a basic foundation of life for everyone, the food supply.
You claim theres no difference between what is being done now and what was done for the last 4000 years. That is a bald faced lie.
I am proud that those of us supporting the freedom of the food supply have succeeded in this case. For McDonalds to refuse these mutant potatoes is a win.

Sheesh you cannot even get that right and you expect us to listen to your opinion on something as fundamental as our food? Maybe you can write their corporate offices and tell them they are spelling their name wrong.

That big long D word is silly putty ingredient. There are those of us who are not allowed soy products.

Yup.. be fore my time. ;)
“Why is Paint Thinner in childrens cereal?”
Good question? Seems counter to common sense of any parent. The manufacturers need to tell us what is in their product and where it is made, and then let consumer decide. If they lie about it, the CEO needs to go to prison for a long time.
The FDA is corrupt, just like the SEC,media, etc etc. We’ve allowed our country to become corrupted by global bankers and global corporate interests, and others while we the people are divided, and played like a violin by politicians on the take.
Excellent idea. Here's your label.
This product may or may not contain GMO corn, soybeans and wheat.
Does that make you feel better?
Amazing how you pricks are so dismissive over something so fundamentally important as the food supply.
So willing to force your view on everyone else.
The results are still the same even though modern methods of genetic engineering allow us to get exactly what we want, in a much shorter amount of time, than the random mixing of genes and hoping for the best that comes from hybridization.
GMO goes far beyond the bounds of nature, crossing different biological kingdoms like a bacteria with a plant.
This is nonsense. Living organisms have had their DNA manipulated since forever. Every plant and animal contains bacterial DNA in their cells. Bacteria and viruses have been moving DNA across species in nature for millions of years. Why some people think it's ok for nature to this, but not humans, is a mystery. Every method of genetic modification used in the lab first existed in nature. Nature taught us everything we know about the methods we use today.
For example, Monsanto has crossed genetic material from a bacteria known as Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) with corn. The goal was to create a pest-resistant plant. This means that any pests attempting to eat the corn plant will die since the pesticide is part of every cell of the plant.
And thank goodness they did this. Bt-corn contains, on average, 900% less cancer causing mycotoxins than the non-GM corn the anti-GMO crowd claims to prefer. Anyone who isn't aware of this should spend some time learning about fusarium molds and the cancers they are known to cause. Death and illness from mycotoxins in non-GMO corn is real. Death or illness from Bt corn is not.
You've been eating Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) since you first started on solid food. It is a fairly common bacterium found in soil that is present in all sorts of foods. The organic industry uses it as an approved pesticide. Organic apostles eat it all the time on their food and it isn't a problem. Why is it suddenly a problem when we place a single protein from this bacterium in corn when you and your family have been eating the bacterium all your lives?
Do you also fear sodium bicarbonate? It's used as a cleaner and to put out fires. Have you ever tried baking without using baking soda (same thing)? Yeah, you eat it all the time.
If you want to really avoid paint thinner, don't ever drink orange juice. OJ contains limonene, which is a key ingredient that makes paint thinner effective. There's more, benzene is in the air you breathe, the water you drink and in the roasted meats you eat. It is also highly toxic. Do you eat potatoes? If so, you're eating solanine and arsenic. Lettuce, carrots and grapes have trace quantities of caffeic acid, a known rat carcinogen. Also avoid nuts (aflatoxin), bread (acetaldehyde, acrylamide) and mushrooms (hydrazine) too. Trace amounts of dangerous chemicals exist in many of the foods you eat every day. However, there is absolutely no need to be afraid of them in these quantities.
So willing to force your view on everyone else.
I'm not forcing you to do a single thing. If you want non-GMO food, it's available today.
No big government whining needed.
