verb, transitive
To investigate.

Origin: From Latin scrutari (to examine). Earliest documented use: 1882.

USAGE:

Yeah, that’s why I find it odd that blacks from the south say it too....how did that happen?

I liked when he said about her misplacing her savings card that they were gonna be like THOSE JAGS up front trying to plug in various phone #s trying to remember which one they used.

I didn’t change my patterns of speech when I moved here, I don’t think. my entire family, here and the Ohioans, say those things the same way.

My husband has worked all over the U.S. at various times - he would keep me laughing at different terms for tools or machinery - in the area of Minnesota and Wisconsin they call the small tractor type equipment a “skidster” - we call it a “bobcat”. Also everytime my husband would say “tower” they thought we was saying “tire” and he does NOT say it that way - but just his accent came across to them as “tire” same with “oil”, they thought he was saying “all”.

Yeah - lol. Just before we left PA they built a giant eagle. I think the locals were just calling it Giant
