I’m sorry the investigation didn’t live up to your standards. In many cases law enforcement will only do as much investigating as the facts warrant. In this case there was an autopsy with no evidence of foul play and a crash investigation that has apparently not uncovered evidence of sabotage or other misdeeds. No evidence of criminal activity general leads police to scale back their investigations and leave it to the coroner and the NTSB.
Sworn witness statements are mandated by statute if there is an unattended death under the coroner’s jurisdiction. The Police Chief said there was no such death in this case, even thouqh Dr. Harle supposedly reported an unattended death within Maui County’s jurisdiction.
Has nothinq to do with MY standards. It’s the law. And the Police Chief said there was no unattended death within Maui County’s jurisdiction. He flatly contradicted Dr. Harle’s “pronouncement of death” (that wasn’t communicated throuqh any non-telepathic means).
In this case the Maui Police Department would conduct the investigation on behalf of the coroner, absent the autopsy, per HRS 841-3.
